Out-of-form duo seeking some respite
Both Everton and Tottenham head into this clash in poor form, with the Toffees without a win in six league matches and Tottenham not tasting success in their last five top-flight outings.
Despite their managerial change last week, goals continue to be a problem for Everton, who have scored just 15 goals in their 20 league games. The 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa on Wednesday was their ninth defeat of the season and David Moyes is now well aware of the task in hand as he tries to keep the Toffees in the top flight.
Tottenham fell to another North London derby defeat the same night and Ange Postecoglou described their second-half display at the Emirates as “unacceptable”. The only teams to have lost more league games than Spurs this term are Wolves, Leicester and Southampton, leaving the Lilywhites facing the prospect of finishing in the bottom half for the first time since the 2007-08 campaign.
The last five league meetings between these two sides at Goodison Park have finished in draws, including last season’s clash which finished 2-2, and both managers would see a point as something positive to build on.

Son the scourge of Everton
Heung-min Son has not been the talisman he has previously been for Spurs, and there is mounting talk that this might be his final season with the club. The South Korean international scored in the midweek defeat at Arsenal, and that was only his second away goal of the campaign.
Son has had plenty of previous success though against the Toffees, including scoring a brace in the reverse fixture back in August. In fact, the 32-year-old has scored four goals in his last six meetings with the Merseysiders and will feel he can add to that tally on Sunday.

Attack versus defence
It’s fair to assume Tottenham will try and take the game to Everton, with more options going forward than they have at the back following a raft of injuries. In contrast, Everton’s strengths lie defensively with seven clean sheets to date, while the Blues have scored just one goal in their last six league games. That comparison is backed up in the stats, with Spurs racking up 115 shots on target compared to 66 for Everton.
The Toffees, who are likely to try and play a high press to keep Tottenham’s creativity at arm’s length, are in the top half of the fouls committed stats in the Premier League. There is an average of 11.8 fouls per game and their current lack of attacking threat is expected to see referee Darren England blowing up for more fouls from the hosts.
