Manchester United haven’t had the best of Premier League campaigns so far this term, with Erik ten Hag’s side struggling to stay in touch with the top-five in the table after 21 matches in this year’s campaign.
The Red Devils have lacked consistency to challenge for a top-four finish, and find themselves behind the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at this moment in time, which will be hugely frustrating for the Old Trafford faithful, whose patience is wearing thin.
One player that has found it tough so far this season is Marcus Rashford, who has netted just four goals from his 26 appearances for the club so far this term, which doesn’t make for the best of reading for a player that will have hopes of being part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships.
Speaking exclusively to MyBettingSites, former Manchester United man Paul Parker issued his thoughts on Rashford’s season so far, and it’s safe to say that he wasn’t impressed with what he’s seen from the 26-year-old so far this season.
“People who think Rashford is good don’t watch the games. They are champagne fans as I normally say.
“He scored a lot of goals last season and he was hiding behind his goals, even though he was terrible most of the time.
“He is an egomaniac and he even had the audacity not to thank Hojlund after his goal against Nottingham Forest. He was just focusing on himself like he always does.
“He is playing very, very poorly and he keeps doing it. People were mentioning as a Ballon D’or candidate last season, but that’s completely nonsense and delusional.“
Parker went on to admit that he feels as though Rashford has to realise that he isn’t the biggest ‘star’ on the Manchester United team anymore, before stating what he thinks the England forward has to do moving forwards, as we head into the second-half of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
“I think he has to realise that he is not the biggest star on the team. He is a big name, but not a big player.
“I think it makes people even more sad to see that he is not working hard. He is a local boy so he could potentially be a fan favourite but as long as he is not working hard he will never be that.
“He needs to realise that his main strength is pace. He has changed his game since he got his breakthrough many seasons ago and that’s a huge mistake. He doesn’t have the skillset to play like Jack Grealish, which he is trying to at the moment.
“I don’t like his body language and the way he is mimicking. He should prove that he loves to be here as a local boy. Right now, Alejandro Garnacho is way more popular than him, which should really worry him. It’s worrying that an Argentinian lad is more popular than a local boy.”
Rashford and his Manchester United team-mates are set to return to action on Sunday 28th January, as they prepare to take on League Two side Newport County in the FA Cup. Manchester United are priced at 1/12 favourites to win against Newport, in what should be a relatively straightforward win for ten Hag’s side.
