Sorry Spurs set for another setback
The heat is rising on Tottenham manager Thomas Frank following a sequence of just three wins in 13 matches and a FA Cup run is exactly what the Dane needs to get supporters back on side.
Antoine Semenyo’s injury-time strike helped Bournemouth to a 3-2 victory over Spurs in the Premier League on Wednesday and that leaves them 16 points behind third-placed Villa in the table.
Tottenham have no choice to go strong but, while still dealing with a number of first-team injuries, options are restricted and a rampant Villa are expected to capitalise.
Unai Emery’s side are only six points behind Arsenal in the Premier League title race but this represents an excellent opportunity to claim some silverware and his squad looks more competitive than Tottenham’s.
Villa were frustrated in a goalless draw at Crystal Palace on Wednesday but they had won 12 of their previous 13 matches and they were 2-1 winners at Tottenham in the league in October.
The Villans dumped Spurs out of the FA Cup at the fourth-round stage last season and the underachieving Londoners have won just three of their last ten games at home.

Wounded Magpies have bigger priorities
Newcastle’s thrilling 4-3 success at home to Leeds on Wednesday came at a cost as they saw centre-back Fabian Schar stretchered off, which has further depleted a defence already missing the services Dan Burn, Jamaal Lascelles and Emil Krafth.
Eddie Howe has a selection headache at the heart of his defence and, with an EFL Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City on the horizon on Tuesday, they could be vulnerable in this FA Cup clash with Bournemouth.
The Cherries snapped an 11-game winless streak with midweek’s 3-2 success at home to Tottenham and recent performances have been extremely encouraging.
Andoni Iraola’s side have drawn 2-2 at Chelsea and pushed Arsenal hard in a 3-2 loss at home since the end of December, all of which suggests that they can exploit a wounded Newcastle side that they are unbeaten against in six meetings.

In-form Hornets can sting the Robins
Watford have had a torrid time in the FA Cup since their 6-0 demolition against Manchester City in the 2019 final, but the Hornets are in a happy place right now and can overcome Championship rivals Bristol City at Ashton Gate.
Watford are up into the Championship playoff places following a run of just one defeat in 13 and a 3-0 victory at home to Birmingham on New Year’s Day was their fourth straight success.
The Hornets have had nine days to freshen up, having seen Sunday’s trip to Hull postponed, and they should be confident of seeing off hosts Bristol City.
The Robins have won four and lost five of their last ten Championship games, highlighting their inconsistencies, and Blackburn, Millwall and Preston have all won at Ashton Gate since the start of November.
