Goodwood Day 3 Betting Tips
Glorious Goodwood enters its third day with a trio of Group races.
We begin with the Group 2 Markel Richmond Stakes for two-year colts and geldings, followed by the Group 3 HKJC World Pool Gordon Stakes, and we wrap up the big races with the Group 1 Nassau Stakes.
- 1.55 Goodwood – Maximized @ 4/1
- 2.30 Goodwood – Wimbledon Hawkeye @ 15/2
- 3.05 Goodwood – See The Fire @ 9/4
1.55 Goodwood – Perfect opportunity for Maximized to bounce back
Maximized made a strong impression when winning stylishly on debut at Haydock, defying his outsider status among the Godolphin duo to pull clear late on in what looked a high-quality performance.
He confirmed that early promise with another win in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom, overcoming a sluggish start to finish strongly and showing clear progression from his debut.
Skipping Royal Ascot, Maximized reappeared in the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket. While he travelled well early, the race ultimately got away from him, and he faded in the closing stages. That form has aged well, with the winner Zavateri going on to score again in the Vintage Stakes, suggesting Maximized may simply have met a colt further along in development.
The application of cheekpieces looks a smart move to sharpen his focus, and given the level of ability shown so far, he has a solid chance of bouncing back here.

2.30 Goodwood – Wimbledon Hawkeye should secure win
Having shown a lot of promise as a juvenile, Wimbledon Hawkeye has arguably been unlucky this season, putting in a number of decent efforts but not reaping the rewards.
Second in the Craven to Field Of Gold and fifth in the 2,000 Guineas, he was upped in trip for the Dante at York and, while he made a meal of it in the race, edging right in the closing stages, he still ran reasonably well and looked as though a step up in trip would be ideal.
Wimbledon Hawkeye was then tried over 1m4f in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot, and while he finished a little way back from the winner, the step up in trip looked to suit him as he stayed on well in a race where they went at a good pace throughout.
He followed that up with another creditable second over 1m4f at Newmarket recently. He would have gone closer had he not stumbled leaving the stalls there, but went well through the rest of the race, with all the signs suggesting it will all come together for him soon, and when it does he will take some beating.
He remains over the same distance for this Group 3 and the cheekpieces are reapplied, having been left off last time, which should help him settle a bit better.
He has every chance of securing his first win of the season here.

3.05 Goodwood – See The Fire
See The Fire returns to this contest with unfinished business after finishing runner-up last year, and she comes into it off the back of a solid campaign that suggests she’s ready to go one better.
Her seasonal reappearance at Sandown in April looked very much like a prep run, but she put that behind her in emphatic fashion when bolting up by 12 lengths in the Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York. That performance marked her out as a mare in excellent form and one still progressing.
She then stepped up in class for the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot and ran respectably in third. While she was no match for the front two, it’s worth noting she may not have been on the ideal part of the track. Importantly, she still managed to beat high-class rivals, including multiple Group 1 winner Los Angeles, indicating that she belongs at this level.
She’ll need to produce her very best to win here, but the signs suggest she’s coming to the boil at just the right time.
