Glorious Goodwood Day 2 betting tips
The big race of the day, and arguably the entire meeting, is the Group 1 Sussex Stakes over a mile.
One horse looking to solidify his status as a superstar miler is the John & Thady Gosden trained Field Of Gold. William Buick steps in to take the ride, with Juddmonte’s retained rider Colin Keane being sidelined by suspension.
Our expert has a trio of selections on the card, including one in the feature race, one in the opener, and a talented two-year-old in the Group 3 Molecomb Stakes.

1.20 Goodwood – Cape Breton
CAPE BRETON looks like a handicapper with serious potential for Ralph Beckett, a trainer known for targeting the big meetings with improving types. Lightly raced and with a strong pedigree as a son of Frankel, Cape Breton got his first win on the board at Lingfield last season, displaying tenacity to fend off challengers late on.
After being gelded over the winter, he returned with a strong performance at Ascot in May, finishing second on his handicap debut despite hanging in the closing stages. That run clearly showed he had talent but also things to learn.
His next outing at York was underwhelming, but the run can be forgiven, as conditions or the track may not have suited. Back at a more suitable trip of 1m4f at Salisbury, he looked a different horse. Dictating terms from the front, he surged away in the final stages to win by a commanding six-and-a-half lengths, clearly appreciating both the distance and the rhythm of the race.
A 7lb rise in the weights is entirely justified based on that performance, and with further improvement likely, he looks capable of going in again.

2.30 Goodwood – Lady Iman
Precocious two-year-old LADY IMAN has already produced a high level of form this season and although Ryan Moore got the better of her at the Curragh last time out, she gets the benefit of his riding services this time around.
She began her career with a smooth success over the minimum trip at Dundalk in March. The second and third were both well beaten that day and have gone on to win since, providing a substantial boost to the form.
Ger Lyon’s filly then got the better of impressive Queen Mary and Railway Stakes winner True Love in a Listed contest, before following up in a Group 3 over 6f.
This daughter of Starman lost little in defeat when second to Beautify in the Airlie Stud Stakes and returning to 5f will almost certainly suit.
Lady Iman is very much the one to beat here.

3.05 Goodwood – Field Of Gold
The Sussex Stakes takes centre stage on Wednesday and there’s only one horse on everyone’s lips.
FIELD OF GOLD didn’t look like anything out of the ordinary as a two-year-old but he has blossomed into an exceptional colt this season.
John & Thady Gosden’s three-year-old won the Craven Stakes in emphatic fashion back in April and a poor ride prevented him from following up in the 2000 Guineas. Colin Keane took over riding duties in the Irish Guineas and he blew them all away.
It was a similar story in the St. James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot last time out and French Guineas winner Henri Matisse had no answers once Keane pushed the button.
The current crop of four-year-olds aren’t exceptional and Field Of Gold should be winning here.
It’ll be the shock of the season if he fails to come out on top.
