Scots can cut through Greece
After a difficult spell for Steve Clarke’s side, Scotland turned a corner at the back end of 2024, going on a three-game undefeated run.
Drawing 0-0 with a star-studded Portugal side at Hampden Park, Scotland then went on to beat Croatia 1-0 in Glasgow before a 2-1 success on the road in Poland last time out.
The likes of Portugal, Croatia and Poland could not get the better of the Scots and Greece might well struggle to get a result on Thursday night as well.
Greece have been in good form but a 3-0 defeat to England in their last home game shows Ivan Jovanovic’s side can be got at.
There won’t be much between these sides but Scotland look capable of edging what should be an entertaining game at Karaiskakis Stadium.
- Greece vs Scotland Tip 1: Scotland to win @ 29/10 with bet365
Goals to be expected in Piraeus
Home games for Greece tend to have plenty of goals so an end-to-end contest might well be on the cards against Scotland in this Nations League encounter.
Looking back at Greece’s last five games on home soil in all competitions, going for over 2.5 total goals would have landed in four of those matches.
A total of 17 goals have been scored across Greece’s last five home fixtures, 12 of which they have contributed themselves, so it would be little surprise to see over 2.5 total goals land in this one as well.
- Greece vs Scotland Tip 2: Over 2.5 goals @ 13/10 with bet365
Super McGinn can strike again
Scoring the winning goal in both of Scotland’s last two games against Croatia and Poland, John McGinn is in a rich vein of form for his country.
A player who has come on leaps and bounds with Aston Villa, especially this year with the club reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League, McGinn is one of the first names on the teamsheet for Scotland.
Most of Scotland’s goals don’t come from their strikers, with goals primarily being provided from midfield by the likes of McGinn and Scott McTominay.
Given his recent record for Scotland, McGinn to find the back of the net for a third game in a row for his country appeals here.
Completing a bet-builder selection, it’s worth considering Konstantinos Koulierakis to be carded in this one.
No Greek player has picked up more yellow cards in the Nations League this season than the Wolfsburg defender and the 21-year-old might well get in hot water with the officials again on Thursday.
