ITV Racing Betting Tips
The action kicks off at Cheltenham at 13:10 and concludes with the 16:05 from the Prestbury Park venue. Our expert, Trevor Page, has provided selections and analysis for three of the televised races.
- 13.30 Doncaster – Rosario @ 4/1
- 14:05 Doncaster – Action @ 7/1
- 14:20 Cheltenham – Backmeorsackme @ 10/1
13.30 Doncaster – Rosario
Roger Teal’s Rosario has been a bit unfortunate not to win more than one race this year, the four-year-old regularly running to within a few pounds of his best since scoring at Goodwood in the spring.
The selection was highly tried as a juvenile and finished placed in both Group 2 and Group 3 company, including over this course-and-distance in the Flying Childers Stakes.
He missed most of his three-year-old campaign through injury, but has returned in good form this year, performing admirably in competitive handicaps.
Arguably unlucky not to win the Shergar Cup Dash after the late removal of a hood, he’s continued to knock at the door since, most recently when touched off on soft ground at Ascot at the start of the month. He’s only 1lb higher this afternoon.
14:05 Doncaster – Action
Aidan O’Brien is responsible for the top three in the market for the Group 1 Futurity Stakes and my preference is for Action, the longest price of his trio.
The son of Frankel has, like his stable’s other two runners, had three outings to date and took a big step forward when third behind George Boughey’s Bow Echo in the Group 2 Royal Lodge Stakes at Newmarket last month.
A long striding individual, he didn’t look in love with Newmarket’s undulations, briefly getting unbalanced in “The Dip” before finishing his race off nicely to be beaten just a length-and-a-half by the current ante-post favourite for next season’s 2,000 Guineas.
He ran to a Racing Post Rating of 107 on that occasion, surpassing his Galway maiden victory by a whopping 18lb. This flatter, less complicated track should bring about further improvement and at 8-1, represents excellent each-way value.
14:20 Cheltenham – Backmeorsackme
The booking of Sean Bowen for the Emmet Mullins-trained Backmeorsackme takes the eye and he looks worthy of a small interest in what is a devilishly competitive staying handicap chase.
He’s hardly been prolific in his career so far, winning just one of his 16 races under rules, but he’s got fitness on his side following a recent spin at Listowel and looks well treated off an official mark of 124, having run to a Racing Post Rating of 129 when chinned in a Listed handicap hurdle at Navan last December.
He’s yet to catch in his four outings over fences, but remains unexposed in this sphere and represents connections that have done well with their British raids over the last couple of seasons.
Also, there have been Irish-trained winners of this particular race in three of the past four runnings.
