League Two 25/26 Season Preview and Predictions

Contributor: Sean Troup, Image ID: 3BP38D9

The 2025/26 League Two season kicks off this weekend and here are our predictions for the season, including some details around new customer sign up offers that some UK betting sites have available for football.

League 2 Betting Tips

Our betting expert has three selections for outright betting in League Two ahead of the new season, which starts with a full slate of games on Saturday. Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Spireites on the up

MK Dons finished 19th last season but a summer spending spree has seen them installed as favourites to win League Two. Manager Paul Warne is a coup at this level and they have made some impressive signings, but it is hard to see any juice in the price of MK.

Second in the betting are Chesterfield and Paul Cook’s men make much more appeal, given they lost just one of their last 13 games in 2024/25 before falling short against Walsall in the play-offs in their first season back in the EFL.

The Spireites were the second-top scorers in the division last season and have added to their striking options with Lee Bonis, who scored 11 goals in the Dutch second tier last term.

Fellow new addition Ryan Stirk played all but two of Walsall’s games last season and should improve the midfield, while Zach Hemming impressed on loan at St Mirren and Kilmarnock and will be first-choice goalkeeper.

Dilan Markanday was last at Blackburn in the Championship and should bring quality out wide. Add to that the experienced core of Paddy Madden, John Fleck and Will Grigg, and Chesterfield have a very solid squad.

Their pass-first style of play has also seen them land Devan Tanton and Matt Dibley-Dias on loan from Fulham and they should play a big role. Cook’s men look well set up for a good tilt at the title.

Bees can continue progress

The gap between the National League and League Two has been closing in recent years and a number of clubs have succeeded in their first season back at this level.

Barnet could be the latest to achieve that after finishing with a century of points and 97 goals scored in the National League last term.

They have added some real EFL quality in the shape of Romoney Crichlow from Bradford, Forest Green midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe and goalkeeper Owen Evans from Cheltenham, and could challenge for a top-seven finish.

Barnet were unbeaten at home last season and if they can continue to impress at the Hive, they have a real chance of finishing in the play-off places.

Slog for Stanley

Accrington have been battling relegation for the last few campaigns and this could finally be the season that they succumb to the drop.

They finished 21st last term and there have been issues off the pitch, with owner Andy Holt announcing that he would be stepping down.

Since then Stanley have been very quiet in the transfer market and it appears the money may have run out for the club.

They won just five of their 23 home games last season and look extremely vulnerable to the drop this time around.
