Liverpool vs Nottingham Forest Betting Tips
The action gets underway at 12:30pm on Saturday, 29th August, and you can find our expert analysis behind our selections below.
Reds Tipped to Secure First Anfield Win
Liverpool are strongly fancied to claim all three points in Andoni Iraola’s first competitive home match. After salvaging a 2-2 draw at Newcastle on the opening weekend, securing a victory in front of the Anfield crowd is a priority for the new head coach.
The club has an exceptional record in their first home fixture of a Premier League season. They have won 12 of their last 13 opening home games, with the only blemish being a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in the 2022-23 campaign. In fact, Liverpool have not lost their first league game at Anfield since 2003, a run stretching back 22 matches.
Admittedly, Nottingham Forest have enjoyed recent trips to Merseyside, winning their last two visits to Anfield without conceding a goal. However, Liverpool have never lost three consecutive home games against Forest in their history, and a repeat seems unlikely given the visitors’ current form.
Forest have started their season under new manager Oliver Glasner with consecutive defeats to Leeds United in both the league and EFL Cup, failing to score in either match. This lack of attacking threat, combined with Liverpool’s motivation to get a first win on the board, makes the home victory a solid starting point.

Iraola’s Attack to Breach Forest Defence
Liverpool’s attacking metrics suggest they are well-placed to find the net at least twice in this fixture. The team scored over 1.5 goals in six of their last eight Premier League matches and have demonstrated their offensive firepower already this season.
In their opening match against Newcastle, Iraola’s side generated an impressive 2.98 Expected Goals (xG) from 27 total shots. This level of chance creation indicates that even with the departure of Mohamed Salah, the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz can threaten opposition defences. Isak alone registered an xG of 1.08, proving he is getting into dangerous positions.
Nottingham Forest, meanwhile, have shown defensive vulnerabilities under their new management. They have conceded more than 1.5 goals in three of their last six competitive games, including a 2-0 EFL Cup defeat to Leeds where they registered an Expected Goals Against (xGA) of 2.25.
With Oliver Glasner still implementing his system, the Forest defence looks susceptible. Facing a Liverpool side that will likely dominate possession and create a high volume of shots, it is difficult to see the visitors keeping the Reds’ attack quiet for 90 minutes.

Goals Expected at Both Ends
While Liverpool are expected to win, a clean sheet may be beyond them. New manager Andoni Iraola is known for an attack-minded style of play that can leave his teams exposed at the back. Last season, his Bournemouth side saw 25 of their 38 Premier League games feature goals from both teams.
The opening 2-2 draw at Newcastle suggests this trend may continue at his new club. Liverpool’s defence looked particularly vulnerable to counter-attacks, and Newcastle were able to register three big chances. Last season, Anfield was far from a fortress, with Liverpool keeping just five clean sheets in 19 home league games. A significant 68% of their home fixtures saw both teams score.
This should offer encouragement to Nottingham Forest. Despite their early-season struggles in front of goal, they have players like Morgan Gibbs-White and Dan Ndoye who are effective in transition. Glasner is known for setting his teams up to sit deep and counter, and the visitors will look to exploit the space left by Liverpool’s attacking players.
