Liverpool vs Newcastle betting tips

Our betting expert has three Liverpool vs Newcastle tips for Saturday evening’s Premier League clash at Anfield (kick-off 8pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Magpies’ Anfield frustration

You have to go back to 1994 for the last time Newcastle won a Premier League game at Anfield, with Liverpool unbeaten in the last 29 meetings on Merseyside.

The Reds have won the last three Anfield match-ups, including a 2-0 victory last season, thanks to goals from midfield pair Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister.

Arne Slot’s men, who are looking to do the double over the Magpies, have been amongst the goals in recent weeks, after previous criticism over a lack of entertainment.

Liverpool bagged six goals in the midweek Champions League win over Qarabag, to make it 16 goals in their last five games in all competitions.

Both teams have scored in five of their last six meetings in all competitions and there hasn’t been a 0-0 draw between Liverpool and Newcastle since 2020.

Ekitike leading the way

Alexander Isak’s summer move from Newcastle to Liverpool stole all the headlines, but with the Swedish ace out with a long-term injury, the Reds have had to rely on Hugo Ekitike.

The close-season capture from Eintracht Frankfurt hit the ground running, whilst several other new signings struggled with the Anfield expectations.

Ekitike sits inside the Premier League’s top-five goalscorers with eight in 20 appearances and has an xG of 6.48.

The 23-year-old striker scored in the Reds’ 3-2 win at St James’ Park in August and goes into this clash having found the net in the impressive midweek win over Qarabag.

Ekitike, who looks on course to be part of France’s World Cup squad, was rested at Bournemouth last weekend and Slot is unlikely to make that mistake again.

Corners and Goals on the Saturday night menu

Only Manchester United and Arsenal have had more shots in the Premier League than Liverpool this season, with the defending champions averaging 10.21 per game.

Eddie Howe decided to leave the main attacking trio of Anthony Gordon, Yoane Wissa and Harvey Barnes on the bench for the trip to Paris Saint-Germain, only appearing midway through the second half, and they still managed to get on the scoresheet.

Liverpool have collected seven more yellow cards than Newcastle this term (38-31) and bad blood between the sides may mean a busy evening for referee Simon Hooper.

Gordon was sent off when the two teams met in August, for a rash challenge on Virgil Van Dijk, and Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was one of five players to pick up a yellow card.

No team has won more corners than Newcastle in the Premier League this term,149 in total, which is an average of 6.47 per game, with Eddie Howe’s men having scored 15 set-piece goals.
