Former France and Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda believes Paul Pogba should follow in his footsteps by signing in at Stamford Bridge.
Ligue 1 return not right for Pogba ahead of World Cup
Reports have suggested AS Monaco are close to securing Pogba on a two-year deal, after his doping suspension ended in March, but Malouda doesn’t feel a return to Ligue 1 would be the best move for Pogba, as he targets a return to the French national squad ahead of the World Cup.
Malouda said, “I’ve seen the talk of Paul Pogba to Monaco and I don’t think it’s the right move for him. I think Chelsea need an experienced player and Pogba has won the World Cup, the Europa League and knows the Premier League so well. I think he belongs in the Premier League. Honestly, I think he belongs in the Premier League. If he manages to get his fitness right that is the first step, people underrate him because he has been away, but he would bring leadership.”
Malouda: Pogba’s mindset makes him suited to Chelsea
Pushed on which Premier League clubs would be most suitable for Pogba’s next move, Malouda suggested not just Chelsea, but Arsenal too.
“He is hoping to lead France at the World Cup and I think a team like Chelsea or Arsenal should try and sign him, he is a very gifted player. He has a great mindset, he has been resilient in his career and in his private life, he will want to get to the top and his experience would be so valuable. All he does is overcome challenges and with Chelsea, I think he could adjust very well to their dressing room.”

Paul Pogba next club betting odds
Despite Malouda’s feelings on the future of Paul Pogba, Chelsea is seen as outsiders to secure his signature ahead of the coming season, with UK betting sites Unibet and BetMGM offering odds of 40/1. A link up with Lionel Messi is actually seen as the most likely outcome, with Inter Miami the favourites to sign the enigmatic Frenchman.
A return to the Premier League isn’t seen as out of the question, but it’s a move back to Old Trafford which has the shorter odds, with Ruben Amorim just 9/2 to link up with Pogba come August.
