City to pile agony on Carrick’s Devils
Michael Carrick has won the race to be Manchester United’s interim boss until the end of the season, taking over from former teammate Darren Fletcher in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure.
The ex-midfielder has experience in the dugout from his time at Middlesbrough but he’s facing a major challenge at Old Trafford and home fixtures to start couldn’t really come much tougher than this Manchester derby.
City have 10 wins and three draws in 13 games across all competitions. That those three stalemates were in league action since the New Year is an enormous source of frustration for Pep Guardiola and has helped put the title race right in Arsenal’s hands.
Even allowing for an away-day derby, this looks a must-win for Man City. The 3-0 win at the Etihad in September was City’s first success against United in five attempts, barring a penalty shootout in the Community Shield last season.
United, however, have just one win in seven games since beating basement boys Wolves last month and they looked out of ideas in the FA Cup defeat to Brighton here last week.
City can win this and expect them to dominate from the off and get their noses in front before half-time against a home side badly struggling for confidence.

Semenyo’s dream start to continue
One man not struggling for confidence is Antoine Semenyo, City’s big January signing. The attacker signed off at Bournemouth with a stoppage-time winner against Tottenham and has started his City career with goals in the cup wins over Exeter and Newcastle.
He’s riding the crest of a wave and his direct running and willingness to shoot are going to strike fear into the United ranks.
He’s got a dozen goals since the start of the season and slotting into this City should only help increase his ratio.

Foden set for more derby delight
Phil Foden grew up at Manchester City and this game has always meant more to the Stockport-born playmaker.
He opened the scoring in that 3-0 win earlier in the season and now has seven goals in 12 Premier League appearances against United. He’s without a goal or an assist in 2026 but had six goals and an assist from late-November to mid-December and this fixture could see him back on track, given his history.
He can have a goal involvement in a forecast Man City win and a booking for either United skipper Bruno Fernandes or fellow midfielder Casemiro completes this bet builder.
Casemiro has already served a suspension in the league and a caution here would take the Brazilian into double figures for club and country this season.
Fernandes collected four cautions in nine games for club and country earlier in the season and his frustration could get the better of him if City dominate this contest, which could lead the Portuguese to a third Manchester derby booking.
