Fireworks expected with plenty on the line
Manchester City went into this season’s Champions League as one of the favourites for the competition, but they need to win in order to secure their spot in the play-offs for the next round of the competition.
City cannot afford to draw or lose on Wednesday, but they will climb above Club Brugge on goal difference with a win. The Citizens are unbeaten in six league games after Saturday’s 3-1 win over Chelsea, but both teams have found the net in four of City’s last six matches.
Their Belgian opponents have scored in five of their last seven Champions League matches and they will feel confident they can trouble City’s vulnerable defence. Nicky Hayen’s side are unbeaten in 20 games in all competitions, with their last defeat coming in October against AC Milan in the Champions League.
Club Brugge have already beaten Sturm Graz, Aston Villa and Sporting Lisbon this season in the competition, while they have also held Celtic and Juventus to draws. They have enough quality to trouble City, but City normally come up trumps in do-or-die situations.
- Manchester City vs Club Brugge Tip 1: Manchester City to win and both teams to score @ 6/4 with bet365
In-form Foden to strike again
England international Phil Foden has not been at his best this season and his dip in form started at last year’s European Championship. Foden has scored seven goals in 18 Premier League games, but six of them have come in his last four league outings.
Pep Guardiola has stayed patient with the City playmaker and he is now rewarding him for his support. Foden has caused carnage for opposition defenders in recent weeks and he can continue that form in midweek.
The City academy graduate has scored three times in Europe already, and his recent form suggests that record should be improved in midweek.
- Manchester City vs Club Brugge Tip 2: Phil Foden to score anytime @ 6/4 with bet365
Brugge duo to leave their mark
After a small blip by his own standards, City striker Erling Haaland is back firing in front of goal. He scored in last week’s 4-2 Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, while he has netted five goals in as many appearances in the league.
Haaland has registered two or more shots on target in four consecutive matches and against Brugge he should have no issues trying his luck. Defender Brandon Mechele will look to unsettle Haaland with niggling fouls and he has conceded 10 fouls in six games for the Belgian club.
Midfielder Ardon Jashari is not far behind him with eight fouls conceded in six games and the duo will have no choice but to get physical against City’s star-studded roster.
- Manchester City vs Club Brugge Tip 3: BetBuilder – Erling Haaland Over 1.5 shots on target, Brandon Mechele Over 1.5 fouls committed, Ardon Jashari Over 0.5 fouls committed @ 7/1 with bet365
