Reds to rub salt into City’s wounds
When the fixture list was first announced in the summer, this showdown was no doubt considered a potential title-decider by many.
Arne Slot has worked wonders after Jurgen Klopp’s departure to get Liverpool into the driving seat for the title this season, but City’s latest defence has fallen flat.
The Citizens have lost seven league games this season, which is six more than Liverpool and more than Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth, Chelsea, Fulham and Brighton.
Pep Guardiola’s men go into Sunday’s game after a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League, losing 6-3 on aggregate to the Spanish giants.
Striker Erling Haaland was an unused substitute in that match due to a knee injury and is not certain to start against the Reds, who should outclass their opponents on the road.
Liverpool are unbeaten in 22 matches in the Premier League, and they should prove their superior quality in Manchester.
Manchester City vs Liverpool Tip 1: Liverpool to win @ 13/10 with bet365
Sunday’s fixture can buck recent trend
Games between top teams in the Premier League can often be close and hard-fought contests. Usually, neither side wants to give an inch, and the matches play out like a game of chess.
The last three encounters have followed a similar pattern, with two 1-1 draws last season followed by a 2-0 win for Liverpool in December.
Before that, at least four goals were scored in seven of the eight meetings between the clubs, and we could witness a similar story this time.
Numerous teams have exposed City’s defensive frailties this season, and Guardiola seems to have lost track of what his best team is.
Liverpool have scored at least two goals in nine of their last 10 matches and they should be able to rack up the goals in an exciting battle at the Etihad.
Manchester City vs Liverpool Tip 2: Over 3.5 goals @ 1/1 with bet365
Forwards to grab the headlines
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has spearheaded their attack in style all season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions under Slot.
He has scored in his last three games for the Reds, adding two assists in the same time.
Salah has the pace to make another big contribution against City’s makeshift defence, and he will also look to make a statement in front of Haaland in the race for the Golden Boot.
Sunday’s match could be tough to take for City’s players if they start to struggle, and midfielder Bernardo Silva is not usually one who takes things lightly.
The Portugal international has collected five yellow cards already this season, the joint-most in City’s squad, and he has been booked in two of his last three appearances against Slot’s men.
In attack for City, January signing Omar Marmoush should be able to prosper even if Haaland is not fit.
Marmoush has registered six shots on target from 11 attempts in four games, and he should play centrally in City’s attack, which may allow him more space to try to exploit any weaknesses in the Liverpool backline.
Manchester City vs Liverpool Tip 3: Bet Builder – Mohamed Salah to score or assist, Bernardo Silva to be booked, Omar Marmoush 1+ shots on target @ 8/1 with bet365
