Gunners to build on emphatic European win
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal made headlines in midweek as they ran out 7-1 winners in the first leg of their last-16 tie against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.
The Gunners ran riot on the road, and while the scoreline was impressive, it is the manner of their success that should be celebrated. Arsenal’s win on the road came without a recognised striker, and it has given Arteta’s men a big boost ahead of their trip to Old Trafford.
Ruben Amorim’s side have only won one of their last five in all competitions, and while they have scored in three consecutive home games, they faced Leicester, Ipswich and Fulham during that run.
The Red Devils are struggling to string results together and they face an Arsenal side that have only conceded 12 goals on the road all season, the second-best total in the Premier League.
Arsenal’s injury woes come in the final third, and with a fully-fit defence to choose from, Arteta will expect his team to win on the road without conceding.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Tip 1: Arsenal to win to nil @ 13/8 with bet365
Expect the visitors to make a fast start
Manchester United’s problems will take time to sort out and the club needs to give Amorim time to succeed.
The former Sporting Lisbon coach has been upfront with the club’s fans, but he has not been able to stop their poor starts.
United have led just three times in 27 league games this season at half-time, conceding 18 first-half goals. The Gunners have had miles more success, winning the first half of their matches on 13 occasions.
The Red Devils have conceded the first goal in 17 of their 27 league matches, and with no sign of them improving at the back, expect Arsenal to lead at the break.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Tip 2: Half-time Result – Arsenal @ 7/5 with bet365
Lively game on the cards at Old Trafford
Matches between these two sides have often been passionate affairs, with a total of 46 yellow cards and one red shown in the last ten meetings.
Both teams are fighting for something, with Arsenal trying to hang onto their slim title hopes, while United’s players are playing for their futures under Amorim.
Neither side will want to go down without a fight, so expect a feisty game in Manchester.
Forwards for each team should set a decent tempo and it’s likely that plenty of players will be taking a few risks and shooting on sight.
United’s Alejandro Garnacho has had 24 shots in his last eight games, with nine of those hitting the target. With Amorim set to play a counter-attacking style, expect Garnacho to break away and try to make a difference.
At the other end of the pitch, Leandro Trossard will look to lead the way once again, having registered at least two shots in five of his last seven appearances.
Mikel Merino has also started as the central striker in recent weeks, and he has registered four shots on target in as many outings under Arteta.
Manchester United vs Arsenal Tip 3: BetBuilder – Over 4.5 cards, Alejandro Garnacho 1+ shot on target, Mikel Merino 1+ shot on target, Leandro Trossard 2+ shots @ 6/1 with bet365
