Mexico vs England betting tips & predictions
The match is set for Monday, 6th July at 1am UK time, and our betting expert has analysed the key stats and angles, read on for the analysis behind his selections.
Three Lions’ Quality to Overcome Fortress Azteca
Despite winning all four of their previous matches, England enter this clash as odds-against in the 1X2 market for the first time in the tournament. This is largely due to the venue, the high-altitude Estadio Azteca, where Mexico have lost just two of their last 89 competitive fixtures. However, the Three Lions possess superior individual quality and bench depth, which could prove decisive.
Thomas Tuchel’s side has already demonstrated the resilience required of genuine contenders. After a frustrating goalless draw with Ghana, they fell behind early against DR Congo before a Harry Kane brace secured a comeback victory. This reinforced the belief that the squad is capable of navigating difficult moments in knockout football.
While the conditions at 2,240 metres above sea level present a significant challenge, fatigue could play into England’s hands. The ability to introduce game-changing talent from the bench gives them a considerable advantage as the match progresses, a level of depth Mexico cannot match.
Ultimately, Harry Kane’s clinical finishing provides a crucial edge. He proved decisive against DR Congo when chances were limited, and having one of the world’s most reliable finishers leading the line gives England a significant advantage in the key moments that are likely to settle this tie.

England to Maintain High Shot Volume
Although England’s attack has not always been at its most fluid during this tournament, they have consistently managed to generate a high volume of shots. The data suggests they are well-positioned to have at least 12 attempts when they take on Mexico in this Round of 16 fixture.
The Three Lions have comfortably cleared the 11.5 shots line in all four of their matches so far, averaging an impressive 18.5 shots per game. Their lowest tally came against DR Congo, where they still registered 16 shots despite not having their first attempt until the 30th minute.
This is not a recent trend. England have now recorded 12 or more shots in their last 13 consecutive matches, a run stretching back to September 2025. Across that period, their average is 19.62 shots per game, well above the threshold required for this selection.
While Mexico presents a difficult challenge with home advantage, their sole match against European opposition provides a useful benchmark. At this same venue, Czechia managed 13 shots against them. Given that England are ranked more than 40 places higher, it’s reasonable to expect them to create enough opportunities to surpass the 11.5 mark.

Kane Primed to Find the Net Again
Harry Kane has successfully carried his stellar club form into the North American tournament, and his contributions have been pivotal to England’s progress. He is a leading contender for the Golden Boot and looks a strong candidate to find the net against Mexico.
The England captain has already scored five goals in the competition, taking his total for club and country this season to 72. His importance was underlined in the previous round, where his two late goals rescued England from a potential elimination against DR Congo.
Kane’s underlying numbers are also strong, ranking in the tournament’s top 10 for expected goals (xG) with 2.63. His ability to outperform this metric highlights his clinical finishing. Even in the goalless draw with Ghana, he had a significant late chance, demonstrating his knack for finding dangerous positions.
Mexico’s defence has been formidable, as they are yet to concede a goal. However, England represents by far their most difficult opponent to date. Thomas Tuchel’s side is expected to create high-quality chances, and Kane remains the most likely player to convert them.
