Stalemate on the cards at St James’ Park
Both Newcastle and Aston Villa will have momentum behind them as they prepare to meet at St James’ Park on Sunday.
The Magpies beat PSV Eindhoven 3-0 in the Champions League on Wednesday, while Villa wrestled past Fenerbahce in the Europa League, leaving Turkey with a 1-0 win to their name.
In the Premier League, both will be looking for responses, having failed to deliver the goods last time out. Newcastle were held to a 0-0 draw by rock-bottom Wolves, while Unai Emery’s Villans fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Everton.
Newcastle have only lost two of their 11 games at home in the Premier League, while Villa have tasted defeat just three times in 11 away games.
The first meeting between the two clubs this season finished 0-0 at Villa Park and there’s every chance we get another draw this weekend.
Newcastle have only lost one of their last seven, which came at the hands of Manchester City, while Villa have only tasted defeat twice since the start of November.
The two teams may well feel the pace of the game towards the latter stages due to their European exploits, so a draw looks good value here.

Rogers to lead Villa charge
Villa playmaker Morgan Rogers has been a standout all season long and he remains their top goalscorer in all competitions with eight to his name.
The England international last scored in the 2-1 FA Cup win at Tottenham, but he will be looking to test this Newcastle defence on as many occasions as possible.
Rogers has had 59 shots in total this season, the most of any team-mate, and 26 of them have hit the target.
He has registered two shots on target in three of his last four and he faces a Magpies defence that has only kept one clean sheet in four at St James’ Park, while they have conceded eight goals during that time.

Midfield battle to dominate proceedings
With both teams set to cancel each other out on Sunday, it makes sense to expect an intense midfield tussle.
There are plenty of passionate players set to take the field this weekend, and it should lead to a feisty affair.
Villa’s Youri Tielemans has conceded 27 fouls this season, conceding at least two in three of his last five outings, while he has conceded at least one foul in each of his previous nine appearances.
He may get into a battle with Newcastle’s Joelinton, who has conceded 36 fouls this season. The Brazilian loves to get stuck in and already has nine yellow cards on his record this season. If the game turns into a fight in the middle, expect Joelinton to leave his mark.
One player who should be able to break away from the scrap is Harvey Barnes, who is looking to register his 29th shot on target. He leads the way in that category in Newcastle’s squad by six attempts and he has had 10 shots hit the target in his last seven games.
