Goals look likely on the Toon

It’s fair to say Newcastle look a much stronger team on home soil than they do on the road, highlighted by their league points tally.

Eddie Howe’s men have just 12 points from 11 matches, but nine of those have been accrued at St James’ Park.

They now face a resurgent Manchester City side who have won five of their last six league matches – a run that leaves them just four points behind leaders Arsenal.

Two of the last three meetings between the sides on Tyneside have finished in draws, while the other ended 3-2 in City’s favour thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Oscar Bobb in 2024.

In-form forwards set for St James’ shootout

You will struggle to find two more physical strikers anywhere in Europe than the two set to feature in Saturday’s 5:30 clash.

Erling Haaland measures in at 6ft 5in while Nick Waltemade is 6ft 6in, with both shining in the Premier League so far this term.

Haaland leads the goal charts with 14 goals in 11 games, while Magpies summer signing Waltemade has four goals in eight appearances.

Both players have a goal conversion of 31% this season and both are likely to have a key role to play on Saturday. It also helps that the duo are on penalties for their repsective teams.

In-form Doku is a threat

No Premier League team has scored more goals than City this season, with Pep Guardiola’s squad finding the net on 23 occasions.

Jeremy Doku heads to Tyneside in outstanding form, playing a key role in City’s 3-0 win over Liverpool last time out, including scoring the final goal.

The 23-year-old then went on to score twice for Belgium during the international break and should start as part of City’s front three.

If Newcastle are to get the better of Doku and co, they are going to have to win the midfield battle and that may mean a physical approach.

Dan Burn may be suspended after his sending off at Brentford, but Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have five league yellow cards between them this season.
