Newcastle vs Manchester City betting tips
Our betting expert has three Newcastle vs Manchester City tips for Tuesday’s EFL Cup semi-final first leg at St. James’ Park (kick-off, 8pm).
- Over 3.5 goals @ 6/4
- Yoane Wissa anytime goalscorer @ 2/1
- Bet Builder – Both teams to receive a card, both teams to score in the second half & Tijjani Reijnders anytime goalscorer @ 11/1
Tyneside thriller on the cards
Newcastle’s last two matches at St James’ Park have turned out to be classics, with a 4-3 Premier League victory over Leeds United followed by a 3-3 draw against Bournemouth in the FA Cup.
The Magpies knocked the Cherries out on penalties, making it 13 home games without defeat in all competitions, a run that includes a 2-1 success over the Citizens in November.
Eddie Howe is facing a defensive crisis, though, with Tino Livramento picking up an injury to join Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth, Dan Burn and Jamaal Lascelles on the sidelines.
It means the English tactician is unable to make many alterations to a backline forced to play extra-time on Saturday in the win over Bournemouth.
And it’s not like City could be in any better scoring form heading into this contest, as they smashed Exeter City 10-1 to move into the fourth round of the FA Cup.
The Citizens also have a habit of scoring at St James’ Park, having netted at least once in 20 of their last 21 trips, while four of the last seven meetings against Newcastle on Tyneside have produced over 3.5 goals.
With both teams in superb attacking form, this could turn into another end-to-end affair in the north east.

Wissa to be on the mark
DR Congo international Yoane Wissa endured a frustrating start to his Newcastle career due to injury, but he has been getting more game-time of late and could play a major role against City.
The 29-year-old opened his account for the Magpies in the 2-1 victory over Fulham in the EFL Cup quarter-finals before grabbing his second against Burnley three games later.
While Wissa has failed to find the back of the net in his last three outings, he has managed three shots on target during that period and he was denied a goal after a tremendous stop from Djordje Petrovic on Saturday.
Wissa has scored in each of his last two appearances against the Citizens and he can torment their defence again.

In-form Reijnders to help land bet builder
An entertaining spectacle is expected and while this should lead to plenty of scoring opportunities, the chances of cards being handed out in a high-tempo game also increases.
Both teams have received a card in Newcastle’s last 10 matches and in five of City’s last six assignments, so expect the pair to pick up at least one caution each.
Eight of Newcastle’s last nine goals have been scored in the second half (including extra-time) and six of City’s 10 strikes in the win over Exeter came after the break.
Fatigue could play a big part as this game goes on and it would be no surprise to see both teams net in the second period.
City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders has been in solid scoring form, bagging in four of his last six appearances, and he can add to his tally against Newcastle’s threadbare defence.
