Next Brentford manager odds: Andrews heads betting as new contender is backed

Updated on

Keith Andrews remains the strong favourite to be appointed as Brentford’s new manager, but a new contender is being steadily backed, as has now overtaken Kieran McKenna as the second favourite with many betting sites.

Until recently, UK betting sites had Justin Cochrane priced up as the most likely successor to Thomas Frank at Brentford. But those odds were turned on their head when Cochrane opted to join Frank in a move to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new season.

With Cochrane out of the running, betting markets had pointed to a two-horse race between Keith Andrews and Kieran McKenna. But while Andrews continues to head the odds, McKenna has now been overtaken by Francesco Farioli.

Francesco Farioli is a 36 year-old Italian who began his coaching career in Turkey, before moving to France and guiding Nice to a respectable fifth-place finish. After just one year at Nice, Farioli was appointed as Ajax’s first foreign coach in nearly two decades.

Farioli’s tenure began well as Ajax opened a seemingly insurmountable nine-point lead in the Eredivisie with just five matches to play. However, a dramatic collapse saw PSV pip Ajax at the last, and a decision was taken for Farioli to move on.

Betting sites initially gave Farioli little hope of taking the reigns at Brentford, pricing him up as a 25/1 underdog. But a flurry of rumours has seen the money come, and the Italian is now as short as 2/1 to make the move to West London.

McKenna’s stock remains high despite Ipswich Town’s fight for survival falling short in May.

After guiding the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, McKenna attracted interest from several top-flight sides and could now see Brentford as a logical next step.

A more leftfield solution would see Brentford go after Ange Postecoglou, who is, of course, readily available after being let go by Spurs despite winning the Europa League.

Who is Keith Andrews?

Keith Andrews is currently part of the coaching setup at Brentford, serving as the club’s set-piece coach.

A former Republic of Ireland international with 35 caps, Andrews enjoyed a solid playing career that began at Wolves and peaked with a Premier League spell at Blackburn Rovers.

After hanging up his boots, Andrews moved into coaching and quickly gained experience.

He was assistant manager at MK Dons in 2016 before taking on a more prominent role with the Republic of Ireland national team between 2020 and 2023. That international stint helped raise his profile, and he later joined the coaching staff at Sheffield United.

In December 2023, Andrews arrived at Brentford, becoming part of a backroom team that helped establish The Bees’ Premier League status.

With Thomas Frank’s departure, Andrews is now being strongly tipped for a step up to the top job, a move that would mark his first foray into full management.
