Next Brentford manager odds: Andrews heads betting following Cochrane departure

Updated on

Brentford look set to make another internal appointment as their next manager, with Keith Andrews emerging as the strong favourite to step up into what would be his first role as a head coach.

Next Brentford manager betting odds

Until recently, UK betting sites had Justin Cochrane priced up as the most likely successor to Thomas Frank at Brentford. But those odds were turned on their head when Cochrane opted to join Frank in a move to Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the new season.

Brentford are now facing a key decision, and the betting markets suggest it’s a two-horse race. Keith Andrews and Kieran McKenna have pulled clear of the pack, with both seen as serious contenders for the vacancy.

McKenna’s stock remains high despite Ipswich Town’s fight for survival falling short in May. After guiding the club to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League, McKenna attracted interest from several top-flight sides and could now see Brentford as a logical next step.

Yet Brentford have often trusted internal solutions, so it’s little surprise to see Andrews now in the frame. A former Ireland assistant and current set-piece coach at the club, Andrews has never managed at first-team level, but his growing influence behind the scenes has evidently not gone unnoticed.

Should the club choose to look beyond those two, Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen is another name thought to be on the radar. Since taking charge in 2018, Knutsen has transformed the Norwegian side, winning four league titles and masterminding a memorable Europa League run that included a win over Lazio before a semi-final defeat to Spurs.

Who is Keith Andrews?

Keith Andrews is currently part of the coaching setup at Brentford, serving as the club’s set-piece coach. A former Republic of Ireland international with 35 caps, Andrews enjoyed a solid playing career that began at Wolves and peaked with a Premier League spell at Blackburn Rovers.

After hanging up his boots, Andrews moved into coaching and quickly gained experience. He was assistant manager at MK Dons in 2016 before taking on a more prominent role with the Republic of Ireland national team between 2020 and 2023. That international stint helped raise his profile, and he later joined the coaching staff at Sheffield United.

In December 2023, Andrews arrived at Brentford, becoming part of a backroom team that helped establish The Bees’ Premier League status. With Thomas Frank’s departure, Andrews is now being strongly tipped for a step up to the top job, a move that would mark his first foray into full management.
