Next Brentford manager odds: Andrews & McKenna now head betting

Updated on

Another day saw another twist in the race to replace Thomas Frank as Brentford manager, following the revelation from Fabrizio Romano that Justin Cochrane will be following Frank to Spurs.

Romano is best known for breaking transfer news with the phrase “here we go!”, and the Italian has now revealed to his 24 million followers on X that it’s not just Thomas Frank who’ll be saying goodbye to West London in the next few days.

Until now, UK betting sites had expected Justin Cochrane to be appointed as the next permanent Brentford manager. But, in the words of Fabrizio Romano, “Justin Cochrane has now approved contract as new Spurs assistant coach. Cochrane will leave Brentford despite club efforts to keep him as he wants to join Thomas Frank at Tottenham.”

The news was confirmed not long afterwards by Brentford themselves, and it appears to have left The Bees with a clear decision to make, as Kieran McKenna and Keith Andrews now sit well clear of their rivals, according to the latest betting.

McKenna has been linked with some huge positions last summer, after leading Ipswich Town to successive promotions. While their progress came to an abrupt end in May, McKenna remains highly regarded and may see this as the right moment to step back into a role within the Premier League.

Brentford do have a history of appointing from within though, and so it’s not a huge shock to see an internal candidate in the reckoning too. With Justin Cochrane out of the equation, it’s Brentford’s current set piece coach, Keith Andrews, who has come into consideration, despite having never been a first-team manager at any level.

If Brentford do look further afield than Andrews or McKenna, another manager thought to be in contention would be Bodø/Glimt manager Kjetil Knutsen. The rise of the Norwegian team since Knutsen’s appointment in 2018 has been nothing short of remarkable, winning four league titles between 2020 and 2024, before embarking on a fairytale run in the UEFA Europa League that saw them defeat Lazio before eventually losing to Spurs in the semi-finals.

Who is Keith Andrews?

Keith Andrews is currently the set-piece coach at Brentford. As a player, Andrews started out at Wolves, before spending a number of years in the Premier League at Blackburn Rovers. Andrews also achieved international recognition, playing 35 times for the Republic of Ireland.

In terms of his coaching career, Andrews served as MK Dons’ assistant manager in 2016, before moving on to take up a similar role with the Republic of Ireland between 2020 and 2023.

Andrews then joined the coaching staff at Sheffield United, before moving on to Brentford in December 2023, and becoming part of the team that have solidified The Bees status in the Premier League. It appears his next step may well now be a promotion to a more senior role with Brentford.
