Strasbourg manager Leroy Rosenior is now the odds-on favourite to take over at Stamford Bridge, after Enzo Maresca’s time as Chelsea’s manager came to an abrupt end.
Chelsea had looked like dark horses to mount a title challenge barely a month ago, but their form has tailed off badly since then, recording just one win in their last seven Premier League matches.
It appears that a tense relationship between the board and Maresca sped up the pace of Chelsea’s decision, with a statement released on New Year’s Day confirming that “Enzo and the Club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track.”
Chelsea next manager betting odds
Given the links between Chelsea and Strasbourg, it shouldn’t be too surprising to see Ligue 1 manager Liam Rosenior listed as favourite to be installed as The Blues’ new manager. Rosenior had been available to back at 8/1 as recently as Wednesday afternoon. However his odds have been repeatedly cut, and he’s now no bigger than 1/2 to step in.
Xavi Hernandez had previously led the betting to become Chelsea’s next manager. The Spaniard has been out of work since being relieved of his duties in May 2024, but latest odds of 22/1 suggest he’s now out of the running.
Instead, it’s a pair of former Chelsea players who have shot up the betting to become the leading alternatives to Rosenior. Cesc Fabregas joined The Blues from Barcelona in 2014, making 198 appearances and winning five trophies, including two Premier League titles. Fabregas’ time as a manager is still in its infancy, relatively speaking, but he has already impressed many in guiding Como to their best Serie A finish since 1987.
The other ex-Chelsea man who is prominent in the betting is Filipe Luis. The Brazilian’s time at Stamford Bridge was brief, playing just 26 times, but he did manage to pick up a Premier League winners’ medal in that period. Like Fabregas, he is still in his first managerial role. Luis took over at Flamengo in 2024, but he extended his contract on Monday, and so moving on now would be quite a turnaround.
