A big update from journalist John Percy has seen a shake-up in the odds for the next Leicester City manager, and this has caused more confusion amongst the Foxes fan base as to who their next manager could be.

UK betting sites did have Danny Rohl as the favourite to step into the Leicester hotseat, with Sean Dyche just behind. Now, following Percy’s update, Chris Wilder and Gary O’Neil have entered the running, with the latter now the favourite.

Percy’s update has caused a big shift in the odds for the Leicester job. He revealed that Leicester are moving closer to appointing a new coach, with O’Neil and Wilder now on the shortlist after both were interviewed last week.

O’Neil, who is now the favourite for the job following this update, was sacked by Premier League side Wolves last season after an abysmal start to the 2024/25 campaign with the club. He has never managed in the Championship, so doesn’t have experience of getting a strong team promoted to the Premier League, so arguably he would be a riskier appointment than Wilder or Dyche.

Wilder left Sheffield United this summer after failing to get them promoted to the Premier League. Despite this, he does have experience of getting the Blades promoted to the top flight, and he managed to keep the club in the division for a couple of seasons, so you can see why he is in the running for the job.

Meanwhile, 36 year-old Rohl is earning admirers for his efforts at Sheffield Wednesday. The prospective appointment of Danny Röhl would be viewed by many as a more progressive move and he has been linked to the Bundesliga over the summer.

Opting for Dyche would suggest a pragmatic approach from Leicester, particularly in light of their off-field challenges. Following relegation from the Premier League, the club now faces the threat of a points deduction due to alleged breaches of EFL financial rules.

Dyche’s style of football may come under criticism, but the manager has top experience in the Championship and no doubt would make Leicester one of the favourites to be promoted.
