Manchester United are on the lookout for a new manager after Ruben Amorim was dramatically sacked on Monday morning. Viewed in isolation, a draw at Elland Road against a rejuvenated Leeds wasn’t a terrible result, but it comes in the same week that they were held at home by Wolves, and is not an entirely surprising decision.
A statement on Man United’s official website reads, “With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Next Man United manager betting odds
Although Ruben Amorim has been under significant pressure for months, the timing of his departure has caught UK betting sites off guard.
As such, there is no runaway favourite at this stage, with Crystal Palace’s Oliver Glasner and Man Utd interim manager Darren Fletcher all prominent in the early next Man United manager betting odds, whilst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has entered the running on Tuesday morning.
He was not among the favourites at all yesterday, but is now 7/1. He has caused a big shake-up in the betting odds and had leapfrogged the likes of Michael Carrick and early favourite Enzo Maresca.

Betting sites struggle to split favourite for next Man United manager
With the next Man United manager odds yet to settle, there is a fair amount of disagreement between bookmakers in terms of who should be the favourite to take over. Some betting sites, like Betfred, are among those that believe United will opt for Darren Fletcher on a permanent basis. The Manchester-based betting site make the former Red Devils midfielder their favourite, and he’ll certainly have a chance to impress, having been confirmed as the main man in the dugout for Wednesday night’s match against Burnley. However, the likes of bet365 see Glasner as the favourite. Betting sites are struggling to split the pair.
Oliver Glasner has worked wonders at Selhurst Park, winning Crystal Palace their first trophy since they finished top of the second tier in 1994. Glasner has been linked with a number of high-profile roles in recent months, and it appears increasingly likely that he’ll move on to a new challenge once his contract expires in the summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is now in the running, with reports revealing that the Norwegian would be open to replacing Amorim, whether this would be on a permanent basis or an interim one is a big question for the owners if they did hire to former Man United forward. Solskjaer has been in the Man United dugout before. He took over on an interim basis in 2018 and did so well that he was offered the job. He managed the club for two years when given the permanent role and won 78 of his 149 matches in charge, but there were too many periods of poor form and he was eventually sacked.
Enzo Maresca was the early favourite at William Hill and talkSPORT BET. The Italian has only just left Stamford Bridge, and he’s been touted to head to Manchester City if Pep Guardiola leaves at the end of the season. He has now dropped down the betting and is now 12/1 to take the job after being overtaken by the likes of Glasner, Fletcher and Solskjaer.
Others towards the top of the betting to become Manchester United’s next manager include former England boss Gareth Southgate, Kieran McKenna of Ipswich, and a host of current Premier League managers, ranging from Unai Emery to Mauricio Pochettino.
