The rollercoaster that is the next Rangers manager market has taken another turn. The money that came for Steven Gerrard on Wednesday has now fizzled out, and Danny Rohl has also withdrawn from the process, leaving Kevin Muscat with an increasingly clear path to be appointed as Russell Martin’s successor.
Next Rangers manager betting odds
The new week started with former Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl as the odds-on favourite with betting sites. The 36-year-old German impressed at Sheffield Wednesday under trying circumstances and would be seen as a more progressive appointment than the likes of Sean Dyche.
Tuesday saw Kevin Muscat overtake his rivals at the head of the betting, before fresh money came for Steven Gerrard on Wednesday. However it is Muscat who heads the market on Thursday and is odds-on to return to his former club.

Who are the favourites to be next Rangers manager?
Those yearning for an appointment with historical Rangers links will be pleased to see Kevin Muscat’s name under consideration. Although Muscat only spent one season at Rangers, where he played a total of 29 games, he was part of the 2002/03 team which secured the Scottish Premier League, Scottish Cup and Scottish League Cup. As a manager, his credentials are yet to be tested at the highest level, with the majority of his time being spent in the Australian, Japanese and Chinese leagues.
If this season’s results weren’t emotionally draining enough for Rangers fans, the rumours and counter rumours over Steven Gerrard’s potential return have only added to the drama around the Glasgow based club. Gerrard’s odds had shortened to just 1/8 over the weekend, and were cut again on Wednesday of this week, but it seems that ship has sailed now.
Should neither Muscat or Gerrard be appointed, the Rangers board may yet turn to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian’s former Man United teammate Paul Scholes broadly hinted that Solskjaer was in talks about the role. Speaking on the Good Bad Football podcast, Scholes said, “I was actually with a lad the other night who told me he was actually going to meet Rangers. I’m not sure if he did, but his name’s not been mentioned. I don’t think he was going for it. They contacted him and he was going to meet him in London the day after.”
The Norwegian’s odds had been as big as 33/1 earlier on Monday, but they now sit at 12/1 after punters pieced together who Scholes was referring to.
Danny Rohl remains fourth favourite to make the move to Ibrox, but various sources have claimed the German is no longer a candidate to step into the hotseat at Ibrox. As such, the position is looking more than ever like Muscat’s to turn down.
