Next Spurs manager odds: Dyche & Redknapp backed for relegation rescue

Spurs’ survival hopes were dealt a huge blow as they lost 3-0 to fellow relegation battlers Nottingham Forest on the weekend. Pressure is continuing to mount on interim manager Igor Tudor, and UK betting sites have Sean Dyche, Mauricio Pochettino and Harry Redknapp battling for the job.

Sean Dyche and Mauricio Pochettino are vying for favouritism following the poor run of results Spurs have had so far under Igor Tudor. Harry Redknapp’s odds continue to shorten, whilst Robbie Keane and Ryan Mason, who also have Spurs affiliations, are in the running.

Who are the favourites to be the next Spurs manager?

Sean Dyche is the favourite with betting sites, and this sums up the situation Tottenham are in. He is a specialist at keeping clubs up, with his spells at Everton and Burnley showing his qualities. He was managing Nottingham Forest this season, and was sacked after some poor results, but he had improved the form of Forest. They were actually around mid-table if you only included matches since he took over, so some may say his sacking was harsh.

Mauricio Pochettino is the dream appointment for Spurs fans. The former Spurs boss was at the Atletico vs Spurs match in the Champions League this week, leaving some wondering whether he wants to return.

The 53 year old, had spells at PSG and Chelsea, but many would argue his best period in management was at Spurs. He took charge of 293 matches at the North London club and had them consistently battling or qualifying for the Champions League. He famously led Spurs to the final of Europe’s most prestigious competition in 2019, but they ultimately lost to Liverpool in Madrid.

After throwing his hat into the ring, Harry Redknapp has seen his odds slashed from 20/1 down to just 4/1. While the Englishman boasts a CV filled with high-profile roles, including a memorable four-year stint at Spurs, he hasn’t been in a dugout since 2017. Despite remaining a popular figure among the fanbase, appointing a manager who has been out of the modern game for so long feels like a massive gamble for the rest of the season.

Roberto De Zerbi excelled for Brighton, helping them qualify for the Europa League for the first time in their history. He left Marseille this season, but he also managed to help them qualify for the Champions League. If he were to take the job, then he may want to wait to do so in the summer instead, as it’s a tough job for anyone right now.
