Next Wolves Manager odds: Edwards battling ex-Man United boss for job

Wolves are still searching for a new manager to replace Vitor Pereira after Gary O’Neil rejected the job. UK Betting sites have revealed the favourites to replace the Portuguese manager, and the race is wide open, with Erik ten Hag a favourite, whilst Rob Edwards is leading the betting.

Gary O’Neil was Wolves manager last season, but was sacked after a poor start to the campaign and replaced by Pereira. He was the clear favourite and in advanced talks, but has since rejected the job, possibly due to the outrage from the fan base when reports were circling about the former midfielder being in advanced talks with Wolves.

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was the favourite yesterday, but the odds have changed overnight, with Rob Edwards now the favourite.

Who are the favourites to be the next Wolves manager?

Rob Edwards is the favourite according to UK betting sites. It would be a little surprising to see Edwards leave his current job at Middlesbrough as he currently has them second in the Championship, but he may jump at the idea of being back in the Premier League again. Edwards managed to get Luton promoted to the Premier League, which was a huge achievement, but they were relegated in their first season in the top flight. Despite this, he produced some strong performances with the Hatters and may do better with a stronger squad. Edwards odds were 3/1 yesterday, but they have shortened overnight and he is now 2/1 to take the Wolves job.

Erik ten Hag became the favourite after O’Neil rejected the job, but he has now been overtaken by Edwards and the two are battling for the job according to the bookies. Erik ten Hag’s odds were 5/2, but they are now 4/1. He did well with Manchester United at the start of his career at Old Trafford and even won them an FA Cup, but performances started to drop, and he was eventually sacked. His next job was at Bayer Leverkusen, but he was sacked after just two league matches. The Dutchman has definitely shown top qualities when managing Ajax and during part of his time in the Premier League, but there are huge question marks as to whether he is ready for a relegation battle.

Robbie Keane is another favourite, with the Irishman also a favourite for the vacant position at Celtic. Keane has had assistant manager jobs at Leeds, Middlesbrough and Ireland. He was the head manager at Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he took charge of 53 matches and he is currently in charge of Ferencvaros. Keane has only lost eight matches out of 47, winning 28 and drawing 11. The risk with Keane is his lack of managerial experience in the Premier League, but he has shown some positives over the years and looks to be in the running.

A possible unknown is Rui Borges, who is currently the fourth favourite. His odds were 4/1, but they are now 12/1. The Portuguese boss is currently the manager of Sporting CP, where he has managed 45 matches, winning 30, drawing nine and losing just six, so clearly has some good qualities, but he has never managed in the Premier League and has only ever managed in Portugal, so his inexperience would see him be another risky appointment.
