Just one top-level men’s tournament takes place this week and it’s an interesting one as the Open de France returns to a course from a bygone era, Golf Club Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, located just outside of Paris.
Regular venue, Le Golf National, has hosted the tournament almost exclusively over the last three-and-a-half decades, but that course is being renovated, so Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche steps in for the first time since Seve Ballasteros won the second of his four French titles in 1982.

Open de France golf betting tips
More recently, the venue has hosted the Trophy Lancome, a European Tour event which was scrapped after the 2003 edition, the Seve Trophy team competition from 2009 to 2013, and the 2022 Eisenhower Trophy, a prestigious amateur team contest won by Italy.
Tree-lined, but not overly tight off the tee, Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche is a 6,977-yard par-71 track which relies on extensive greenside bunkering and sloping greens as its primary defences.

French hopeful can delight home fans
With Europe’s stars honing their Ryder Cup preparation in New York, the 107th Open de France has a wide-open feel to it, particularly with Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche a new venue to so many in this week’s field.
That’s not the case, however, for France’s Martin Couvra, a rising star who won the Turkish Airlines Open in May and who is on track to land a PGA Tour card via the Race to Dubai rankings.
Couvra played as an amateur in the 2022 Eisenhower Trophy at this course, finishing sixth as part of a three-man French team, then he captured the Trophee Gounouilhou – another amateur team event – at the venue the following year.
After a poor run of results, the 22-year-old Turkish Airlines Open champion found top gear on his BMW PGA Championship debut, closing with a 67 for a share of 13th place on Sunday, striking his irons well, as has been the case for the majority of this year.
Normally handicapped by a lack of experience, Couvra knows this course better than most of his rivals and can put that knowledge to good use in his national Open.

Brown to crack the code in Paris
England’s Daniel Brown missed the cut at Wentworth last week, but better can be expected at Saint-Nom-la-Bretèche, a tree-lined venue which could prove ideal for the man who won the 2023 ISPS Handa World Invitational at Galgorm Castle.
Brown’s most recent success came in Germany at the BMW International Open in July and he’s produced some excellent results since, finishing in the top ten of the British Masters and the Irish Open.
While he took a step backward last week, this venue represents a less demanding test of the driver, so it would be no surprise if he bounces back.

Enigmatic Italian is worth a punt
One of Guido Migliozzi’s finest hours came in this tournament in 2022, when he claimed the title thanks to a brilliant 72nd-hole birdie at Le Golf National, and the Italian could be set for more Open de France glory on Sunday.
Migliozzi is an enigmatic performer – he has finished fourth in the 2021 US Open, but has a habit of going quiet for long spells.
However, he sprang to life at Wentworth last week, finishing 24th and leading the field in strokes-gained tee-to-green.
Despite sometimes being loose off the tee, his title wins have come at short, tree-lined venues like Karen Country Club (2019 Kenya Open), Rinkven International (2019 Belgian Knockout) and the International (2024 KLM Open).
