The Most Anticipated Movies of 2026: From The Odyssey to Avengers: Doomsday

It has been a whirlwind year in Hollywood, capped off by the blockbuster news that Netflix has agreed to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal will give Netflix control of the Warner Bros. name, its library, and intellectual property, alongside HBO and the prestigious HBO Max brand. Drama in the entertainment industry is sure to continue in the months and years ahead, but in the meantime, audiences are looking forward to the movies coming in 2026. It’s a year that promises to be huge for the box office.

Titles such as The Odyssey, Avengers: Doomsday, Dune: Messiah, and Supergirl are already generating buzz, and here’s a look at which films are capturing the public’s imagination the most.

Avengers: Doomsday Is 2026’s Most Anticipated Movie

To gauge which upcoming 2026 releases are generating the most anticipation, we analysed monthly global search interest using Google Keyword Planner over the past 12 months. This gives a clear picture of which films are commanding attention worldwide.

At the top of the Marvel hype train is Avengers: Doomsday. Rumours of a trailer have already begun circulating, and fans are showing their excitement with 2,740,000 searches per month, a number likely to rise as 2026 approaches.

Staying with Marvel, Spider-Man: Brand New Day brings Tom Holland back as the friendly neighbourhood hero in a joint venture with Sony. Following the massive success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed an estimated $814 million in the US and Canada and $1.1 billion internationally, anticipation for Brand New Day is already high, averaging 1,220,000 monthly searches.

Pixar and DC Dominate the Buzz

Two other films drawing significant attention are Toy Story 5 and Supergirl, both averaging 823,000 monthly searches this year. Pixar’s fifth main Toy Story instalment continues the adventures of Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessie, picking up where Toy Story 4 left off in 2019. Meanwhile, Supergirl marks James Gunn’s biggest DCU release of the year, creating considerable buzz among cinema-goers.

Christopher Nolan Returns with The Odyssey

2026 will also see Christopher Nolan’s return to the big screen with The Odyssey, a cinematic adaptation of the classic Greek epic. The story follows Odysseus, king of Ithaca, on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War. Starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Jon Bernthal, the film reportedly cost around $250 million to produce.

Not surprisingly, The Odyssey emerges as the most anticipated movie of 2026 in terms of Google searches, averaging 450,000 monthly searches.

Other Highly Anticipated Titles

The live-action Street Fighter reboot, distributed by Paramount Pictures, follows Andrew Koji as Ryu alongside Callina Liang, Jason Momoa, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. It is the second most anticipated movie of 2026 with 135,000 average monthly searches, tied with The Breadwinner, starring Nate Bargatze, Mandy Moore, Will Forte, Colin Jost, Kumail Nanjiani, and Zach Cherry.

Other notable titles generating excitement include The Breadwinner averaging 135,000 searches, The Mandalorian and Grogu, which sees Din Djarin and Grogu embark on a big-screen adventure, averaging 110,000 searches per month; Clayface, a horror-thriller exploring the origin of the DC villain, averaging 90,500 searches per month; and Masters of the Universe, also on 90,500 searches rounding out the top ten most anticipated 2026 releases according to Google searches.
