Supreme Novices (Tues 1.20pm)
The Supreme Novices’ Hurdle opens the Cheltenham Festival, with a competitive field of 12 novice hurdlers lining up for the traditional curtain-raiser. The Grade 1 contest promises a high-quality clash between the best British and Irish novices.

Arkle (Tues 2pm)
The Arkle is the second race on day one of the Cheltenham Festival, with a seven-runner field lining up for the two-mile novice chase championship.
The market is dominated by a strong Anglo-Irish clash between Lulamba and Kopek Des Bordes. Lulamba arrives after impressive victories in the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase and the Game Spirit Chase, although his jumping has occasionally looked untidy and may come under greater pressure here.
Kopek Des Bordes, last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner, is our selection for the race. The Mullins-trained gelding made a striking chasing debut at Navan and remains unbeaten in five career starts. Despite not being seen since November, his proven class and strong Cheltenham form suggest he could deliver a standout performance.
For those looking beyond the two market leaders, Steel Ally is highlighted as a potential value contender. The eight-year-old has shown clear ability over fences this season, including an emphatic win in the Kingmaker Novices’ Chase at Warwick, and could outrun his odds if the race is run at a strong pace.

Champion Hurdle (Tues 4pm)
The opening-day highlight of the Cheltenham Festival is the Champion Hurdle, where a nine-runner field sees Britain take on a strong Irish challenge.
Lossiemouth heads the market after being rerouted from the Mares’ Hurdle, boasting an excellent Cheltenham record with four wins from four starts at the track, including three Festival victories. However, recent defeats to Constitution Hill and Brighterdaysahead suggest she may not be unbeatable.
British hopes rest largely on The New Lion, who is our top tip. The Grade 1-winning novice impressed when landing the International Hurdle at Cheltenham earlier this season and is expected to improve further in what should be a stronger-run race.
Irish contender Brighterdaysahead, trained by Gordon Elliott, is considered the main danger after defeating Lossiemouth in the Irish Champion Hurdle and could reverse previous Cheltenham form if reproducing that performance.
Overall, The New Lion is the recommended bet to win the race, with Brighterdaysahead identified as the biggest threat.
