Kobbie Mainoo has got his breakthrough this season, and the talented midfielder impresses a former Man United great.
Man United’s season has been very much up and down, however the club has won three games in a row in the Premier League lately.
One player who has been consistent since his entry as a regular on the first team is Kobbie Mainoo, who has impressed so much that he is even being mentioned as a potential player for England.
According to Paul Parker a call up for the national team would be too early, however he praises the young lad and urges him to focus on performing now and do the negotiations for a contract extension during the summer to keep focus on the remaining part of the season.
“No, I don’t think Mainoo should be considered for the England squad. I have seen people writing and talking about it, but it’s way too early”, says Parker to MyBettingSites and continues:
“He is a marvellous player. What a talent he is and he has a great future ahead of him, but he shouldn’t have that pressure on him to play for England yet.”
Would Never Be Mentioned If He Played For Another Club
Parker says that Mainoo is better than Jordan Henderson, however he still believes the midfielder would never be mentioned as a potential player for England, if he didn’t play for Manchester United.
“As good as I think he has been, we have to admit that he would never be mentioned if he played for another club than Manchester United. Never.
“Do I think he is better than Jordan Henderson? Without a doubt. But so is James Ward Prowse and a lot of other midfielders as well, who I think should be given the chance before Mainoo.”
Mainoo is priced at 2/1 on Sky Bet to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the upcoming European Championships. Be sure to use the Sky Bet sign-up offer when signing up, as they’re offering a strong amount in free bets for new customers.
Keep Your Eyes On The Ball
According to several media, Man United are considering extending his contract and some talks could be going on already now, but Parker urges the midfielder to keep focus on performing and delay the negotiations till the summer.
“I’ve also read that they are talking about extending his contract, which I really don’t think they should focus on right now. He is playing so well and he should focus on performing, not on talking contracts.
“I really don’t hope it’s his agent making the newspaper write this just to fill his pockets. He should think more about how he can perform right now and then they can talk about extending his contract in the summer.”
Parker also warns Man United in terms of giving the teenager too big of a contract, as he doesn’t want another Rashford situation, where the club, according to Parker, rushed when giving him a way too big contract.
“Also, you certainly don’t want to rush and give him a new contract. You wouldn’t want a new Rashford situation, but on the other hand I also think he has to be rewarded for his performances.
“But I think they should make room for making a new contract after that as well, which would mean to build up his contract piece by piece and not put pressure on him by giving him an enormous contract.”
Scary Game Coming Up
Man United are facing Luton away in the weekend, and Parker expects it to be a tough game, as Kenilworth Road is a scary place.
“The game against Luton will be scary. Kenilworth Road is a scary place, especially when they are facing Manchester United.
“This is the game their squad has been looking forward to since the start of the season. Regardless of what fans of other clubs will say, a home game against Man United is the biggest game of the season.
“Man United has to be brave and they have to control the game, which will be tough. They have to play quick, otherwise Luton’s players will smack down Man United’s players, who might feel very comfortable after three wins in a row.”
The Englishman also warns Man United by saying that Luton will give their absolute everything as the game against Manchester United.
“When I played for QPR, we never lost to the big teams at home. We always won but then we could lose to Coventry next week.
“That’s the feeling Luton will have going into the game. They will give their everything, so it will be seriously tough for Man United.
“But of course, they should win. They are the favourites, but it’s not always the favourites that end up winning, we know that.”
