In a recent interview with My Betting Sites, former Manchester United man Paul Parker has sent a warning to Marcus Rashford on not to demand too high wages during his fresh contract talks with the club.
Rashford has been a key man for Erik ten Hag’s side this season, and the Red Devils are keen to resolve his future at the earliest of opportunities. The England forward was on the scoresheet in Manchester United’s recent win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup Final, and will be keen to add to his tally heading into the final few months of this year’s campaign.
‘Rashford is not indispensable’
Rashford has been Manchester United’s star man this season, with the 25-year-old scoring 25 goals in 38 games this season, which makes for hugely impressive reading.
Parker went on to highlight the importance of getting Rashford’s new contract addressed, and was concerned about the forward’s potential wage demands after his strong run of form.
“It is very important that Man United are succeeding with extending Marcus Rashford´s contract because he is scoring a lot of goals. But I’m scared that he now thinks he is on top of the world and will be extremely greedy when demanding a huge jump in salary. That should not be his focus, his focus should be on his own development because he has the chance to be a hero at the biggest club in the world
“Things can change really quickly and he got to understand where he was twelve months ago. Erik ten Hag made him a true goalscorer and he should remember that.”
“So, I don’t necessarily think that he has the upper hand in the negotiations. Where would he go if he was to go to another club? Real Madrid is the only club that would be a step up in the hope of a career increase.
“They don’t want him and they don’t need him. So he needs to be very careful when acting like an indispensable player at the club. The graveyard is full of indispensable men, remember that, Marcus.”
‘Garnacho has Ballon D’or potential’
Parker praised Alejandro Garnacho a considerable amount as well, and spoke highly on the Argentine’s potential, even though he says that he still has a long way to go until he has fulfilled that potential, which Erik ten Hag might use extra energy on now that a contract extension seems to be close.
“Garnacho is way better when he is being subbed on than when he is in the starting lineup. It seems like he doesn’t have the energy to play 90 minutes but he is a really talented player.
“I would even say Ballon D’or potential but I don’t want to put too much pressure on a young lad like him. And he still has a lot to learn but he has a massive potential.
“I’m very pleased that he seems to sign a new contract now, which was the right decision for him. He shouldn’t be playing for Juventus or Real Madrid, that wouldn’t make any sense.
“The fact that he now signs a new contract will also make Erik ten Hag focusing a bit more on his development. He has to work with his mentality because he is not disciplined enough on and outside the pitch.”
Manchester United are priced at 12/1 on LiveScore Bet to win the Premier League title this season, in what could be a tempting bet for punters, especially since the Red Devils are only eight points adrift of league-leaders Arsenal.
