Punchestown Chase Betting Tips
Sunday’s highlight is undoubtedly the Grade 1 John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase and it’s shaping up to be an all-time classic.
Run over an extended 2m3f, Willie Mullins has dominated the race in recent years and has won eight out of the last 10 renewals. He will be represented by multiple horses in Sunday’s big race, including awesome Ryanair Chase winner Fact To File, who also won this last year.
The Ryanair and Gold Cup winners are set to meet in this titanic clash and our expert has picked out their Nap and next best candidate for the race.
Grade 1 winners galore
The first five horses in the betting have all won at least one Grade 1 race and that includes Ryanair Chase winner Fact To File and Cheltenham Gold Cup hero Inothewayurthinkin, but we also have the likes of returning Punchestown specialist Fastorslow and Brown Advisory winner Lecky Watson.
Henry de Bromhead’s Heart Wood is also a very smart horse on his day and although he’s yet to score at this level, he isn’t a million miles away either.
Fact can file another victory to his record
Few horses were as impressive in their novice chase campaign than Willie Mullins’ Fact To File. The sheer power that he possesses is truly a sight to behold. Connections didn’t even bother with hurdles and it’s very easy to see why.
He made an excellent impression when getting off the mark at Leopardstown back in 2023 and looked like he only joined the race with three fences to go in the Brown Advisory at Cheltenham that season, going on to win easily in the end.
Connections decided to start him off in this race last year and he produced an excellent performance to get the better of Spillane’s Tower, Galopin Des Champs and Fastorslow. Things didn’t quite go to plan after that, but Mullins got him back to his very best in the Ryanair at Cheltenham.
Stepping him back to two miles at Punchestown after that was a strange move and you can put a line through that effort. When he’s good, he’s very good and, if arriving in top form here, it will take some performance to stop him.

Inothewayurthinkin could improve again
Gavin Cromwell’s stable star didn’t really look like a Gold Cup horse until he arrived at the second-last fence in Cheltenham’s big race in March. Defending champion Galopin Des Champs had no answer for Inothewayurthinkin, who saw the race out impressively to score by six lengths.
Well beaten in this race last year, he would have to be a lot more forward this time around in order to come out on top, but there could be even more to come from the JP McManus-owned gelding. A rating of 176 suggests he’s the best horse in the race and this is a good chance to prove it.
It seems likely that he will be at his best over longer trips, but the seven-year-old should be much more competitive throughout the season this time around. Expectations will be through the roof now and it’s down to him to prove that his Gold Cup success was no fluke.
