Madrid to cause more problems
Manchester City were architects of their own downfall to a degree in the first leg, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory as they conceded two goals after the 85th minute, despite generally having looked the better side for more than an hour.
Heading to the Spanish capital seeking a win is a thankless challenge. City are facing Real Madrid away from home for the seventh time and have managed only one win in the six previous attempts.
They have, though, scored in five of those six games and should do so again now against a host team with just one shutout in their last six home games in all competitions.
Furthermore, Carlo Ancelotti’s side haven’t kept any clean sheets in four home Champions League games this season, conceding seven times.
At the other end, Madrid have scored 14 goals across those four games, while Manuel Akanji has been added to City’s injury problems after going off at half-time last week and missing the weekend win over Newcastle.
Defensive lapses in the Bernabeu will be punished ruthlessly and the Spanish side can outscore Pep Guardiola’s team, for whom confidence remains fragile.
- Real Madrid vs Manchester City Tip 1: Real Madrid to win and both teams to score @ 7/4 with bet365
Mbappe to have major say
Though he was kept fairly quiet during the first leg, Kylian Mbappe still managed to find the net, albeit rather fortuitously with a shinned finish in the second half.
The French ace also netted against Osasuna over the weekend, ensuring he’s now on a run of 11 goals in 10 games across all competitions for Los Blancos.
The 26-year-old has 52 goals in 82 UEFA Champions League appearances, taking him as high as eighth on the all-time scoring list.
He also has a fine track record against City, with his strike at the Etihad making it four in six games against them in this competition. He is in superb fettle and should get plenty of chances to add to that tally. He’s decent value to get a brace against a City defence that cannot be relied upon.
- Real Madrid vs Manchester City Tip 2: Kylian Mbappe to score two or more goals @ 15/4 with bet365
Goals key to Bernabeu bet builder
It took a while to warm up last week but eventually five goals were scored in the first leg. Over 3.5 goals has now landed in four of the last seven meetings between these sides.
With City behind, they will have little option but to push for goals and their defensive lapses mean they are vulnerable in any scenario.
As noted, Mbappe is in terrific scoring form and he can be relied upon to get multiple shots on target with that in mind. Phil Foden endured a slow start to this season but the City schemer has netted six goals since the turn of the year.
He has two goals and two assists in his last six appearances against Real Madrid and should be in the thick of the positives for City. He’s included for at least one shot on target.
There were 11 corners in the first leg and over nine corner-kicks completes this bet builder for the action in Madrid.
- Real Madrid vs Manchester City Tip 3: Over 3.5 Goals, Kylian Mbappe Over 1.5 Shots on target, Phil Foden Over 0.5 Shot on target & Over 9 corners @ 6/1 with bet365
