Wednesday’s Royal Ascot Betting tips
Our expert has a pair of selections for the coverage, the first of which comes in the eagerly anticipated Prince of Wales’s Stakes (4.20pm).
4.20 Royal Ascot – Daryz
Daryz arrives at Royal Ascot as the undisputed class act of the field, boasting an exceptional pedigree and a stellar Group 1 winning streak that includes his magnificent Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe triumph.
While the Good to Firm ground asks a different question of him today, a horse of his supreme caliber and tactical engine has the sheer quality to take it entirely in his stride.
Returning this season as a physically stronger and more mature competitor, Daryz has the raw talent to dictate the race. If he translates his elite French form to the Berkshire turf, his world-class ability could easily overpower the opposition, including defending champion Ombudsman.
- Winner of Best Welcome Offer at the BC Bookmaker Awards
- Attractive promos, including boosted odds & free games
5.00 Royal Ascot – Fifth Column
The next fancy at Ascot is for Fifth Column to bounce back and land the famously unpredictable Royal Hunt Cup, offering massive each-way value on Day Two of the festival.
The lightly raced gelding looked a Group horse in a handicap when storming up the straight mile here last summer, but arrives at this year’s meeting with something to prove following two muted, unplaced efforts in early-season prep runs.
However, connections have been quick to cite genuine excuses, noting that a sluggish early pace and softer underfoot conditions completely blunted his closing kick. Now returning to a fiercely run, stiff mile on much faster ground, and crucially having cheekpieces applied for the first time to sharpen his focus, the five-year-old is poised to peak third-up.
If he can rediscover the explosive turn of foot that saw him dominate on this track last season, he is heavily overpriced to navigate the maximum field and upstage the market leaders.
