A tense affair in Mount Florida
Hampden Park hosts a colossal fixture on Tuesday night, as Scotland and Denmark battle it out for a place in next summer’s World Cup finals.
Scotland and Denmark have built their respective qualifying campaigns on a solid defensive platform, a precedent both teams set during September’s goalless stalemate in Copenhagen.
Ahead of Saturday’s crazy night of Group C action – which saw Steve Clarke’s men lose 3-2 to Greece and the Danes astonishingly draw 2-2 with Belarus on home soil – these two sides had only conceded three goals between them.
Kasper Schmeichel kept clean sheets in each of Denmark’s opening three group games, while the Tartan Army has only witnessed fleeting moments of attacking quality in recent weeks. For these reasons and because both sets of players will be desperate to avoid making any critical errors, don’t be surprised if we see a distinct lack of goalmouth action on Tuesday evening.

Scotland to make history
Despite coming agonisingly close to qualification on several occasions over the past few decades, the fact remains that Scotland haven’t featured at a World Cup since 1998. But is this painful statistic about to change?
The Scots have undoubtedly ridden their luck – a ‘quality’ that was so often lacking from previous campaigns. October’s Hampden meetings with Greece and Belarus somehow produced six points, even though the hosts were well below par in both contests. Denmark delivered far more convincing performances throughout Autumn, but their inability to put away Belarus on Saturday night suggests they may not have the stomach for this fight.
For once, the omens appear to be in Scotland’s favour.

Scotland left-back to make his mark
We’ve dipped into the cards, corners, and assist markets to create an enticing three-fold Bet Builder, priced at an extremely generous 45/1.
The last meeting between this pair produced 17 corners, with Denmark awarded 13 of these set-pieces. Brian Riemer’s side earned the same number of corners at home to Belarus, while Scotland were handed eight crossing opportunities at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium.
Although Denmark’s disciplinary record has been nothing short of exemplary over their five qualifying fixtures, Scotland have averaged more than two yellow cards per game. With tensions likely to reach boiling point in this high-stakes contest, expect the hosts to pick up at least several bookings.
Having set up goals in each of his last two international appearances while starting to recapture his form at club level, Andrew Robertson could well make another decisive contribution. We fancy the Liverpool full-back to record another assist – potentially of huge significance – on Tuesday night.
