Scottish Open golf betting tips and predictions

US PGA champion and world number one Scottie Scheffler is in attendance, but he faces a tough European challenge including the last two winners, Masters victor Rory McIlroy and home hero Robert MacIntyre, who delighted the crowds at the Renaissance Club 12 months ago. Here are our betting tips and predictions for the Scottish Open.

Fleetwood can bounce straight back

Tommy Fleetwood has become the nearly man of golf and was left in despair last month when he looked set to claim his first PGA Tour victory at the Travelers Championship, only to be dramatically pipped to the post by US Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley.

It was a huge disappointment for the man from Southport, but it has to be remembered that he has been hugely consistent this year and a return to links golf could just see him get that monkey off his back after a couple of weeks to reflect on his TPC River Highlands disappointment.

While a 41st place at the US PGA Championship and a missed cut in the US Open were further blows, it should be remembered he was fourth at both the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Truist Championship, while a seventh at the RBC Heritage was another strong result.

If you add the fourth spot he earned at the Renaissance Club in 2022 and sixth place the following year, then it would not be a surprise if he was right in the mix a week before the Open trip to Royal Portrush.

Fitzpatrick returning to solid form

Another Englishman who could enjoy a strong week is Matthew Fitzpatrick, who looks to have got his game together after a period in the shadows.

The former US Open champion recently parted ways with caddie Billy Foster, but an eighth spot at the US PGA was a tonic and he built on that with a respectable 17th at the Travelers Championship and eighth last time out at the Rocket Classic.

Fitzpatrick was second in this tournament in 2021 and sixth the following year, so it would not be a shock if he built upon his recent good results in North Berwick this week.

Harman looks a dangerous outsider

Of the players a little further down the betting, the name Brian Harman stands out and he looks to represent some excellent value.

The lefty from Georgia claimed the Claret Jug with a six-shot victory at Royal Liverpool two years ago and he has shown some decent form this year with a win at the Texas Open and then eighth place in his most recent effort at the Travelers.

Harman demonstrated how much he likes the Renaissance with finishes of 12th and 21st on his last two visits and there looks a strong chance that he can enter the equation this week with the final Major of the year just around the corner.
