Sports Personality odds: Heroic Lionesses backed for BBC award

Contributor: Rod Olukoya, Image ID: 2JKFD0W

A number of England’s victorious Euro 2025 winning squad have seen their odds cut to win the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

Rory McIlroy had been heavily odds-on favourite after finally securing the US Masters title, but England’s dramatic win on penalties has seen UK betting sites revamp their Sports Personality of the Year betting odds.

Sports Personality of the Year betting odds

Although Rory McIlroy remains the marginal favourite to win the BBC Sports Personality award in December, the other contenders feature a host of the England Women’s Euro 2025 squad.

Chloe Kelly is unsurprisingly at the top of that list, having scored the winning penalty to defeat Spain in the shootout. It’s just the latest in a series of significant goals Chloe Kelly has scored, having also netted an injury-time winner in the semi-final, and previously bagging the winning goal in the Women’s Euro 2022 final too.

Most UK bookmakers have Kelly vying for favouritism with McIlroy now, with Mr.Play one of the few remaining new betting sites that continue to hold odds of 7/4.

Just behind Kelly in the Sports Personality betting is goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, having twice produced heroics in penalty shootouts on England’s route to glory, while captain Leah Williamson, and Lucy Bronze – who played with a fractured tibia throughout the Euros – are also prominent in the betting.

Previous BBC Sports Personality winners

2021 saw Emma Raducanu end a run of 14 successive male Sports Personality winners. The tide has well and truly turned though, with women securing the fourth most recent awards. The England Women’s football team have featured prominently, with both Mary Earps and Beth Mead coming out on top in the BBC’s end-of-year vote.
