Doncaster Racing Betting Tips: St Leger Day
There’s plenty of top quality action either side of the Irish Sea this weekend with the St Leger in Britain and Irish Champions Weekend at Leopardstown and the Curragh.
Aidan O’Brien bids to take out another Classic in Britain having cleaned up at Epsom with both Oaks and Derby success.
We have picked out a trio of selections for St Leger Day including a value pick in the big race itself.
- 1.15 Doncaster – Galeron @ 9/1
- 2.25 Doncaster – Jordan Electrics @ 11/1
- 3.40 Doncaster – Carmers @ 5/1
1.15 Doncaster – Galeron
A competitive handicap kicks off the action on day three of the Leger festival and it’s worth looking for some each-way value. The one that appeals most at the prices is Colin Keane’s mount, Galeron, who is in better heart than his recent form figures suggest.
This son of Camacho may not have won since taking out the Goffs Million back in 2022 but the ground wouldn’t have been ideal for his stint over in Australia where he spent 2024 and he still managed to go close on several occasions.
He then returned with a cracking effort on his yard debut over this course and distance in the Lincoln Handicap on the opening day of the season when only beaten two lengths and he was encountering good to soft going; conditions should be similar on Saturday.
He disappointed a little subsequently but he didn’t get his conditions this summer and he shaped like a return to form may be imminent when getting his ground at Sandown last time, an effort worth marking up given that he was well held up over Sandown’s seven furlongs, a course and distance where it’s difficult to come from rear.
He kept on well that day, suggesting the step back up in trip would suit and the handicapper has dropped him another 2lb, now 8lb below his Lincoln effort.
- St.Leger Day Betting Tip 1: 1.15 Doncaster – Galeron @ 9/1
- Brand new sportsbook launched, offering far more than just horse racing
- Benefit from the unique Tote dividend as an alternative to normal fixed odds betting
2.25 Doncaster – Jordan Electrics
The Portland is always one of the most competitive sprint handicaps of the season and this year’s renewal is no different.
However, one that has often given the impression that he could be a Pattern performer lurking in a handicap is Jordan Electrics. He was unlucky in the run when only beaten a length in a valuable handicap at the Ebor meeting and a lot of his best form has come on a straight galloping track, so there’s a suggestion he’ll take to Doncaster.
The handicapper has leniently dropped him 1lb for the effort on the Knavesmire and another big run is expected.
- St.Leger Day Betting Tip 2: 2.25 Doncaster – Jordan Electrics @ 11/1
- Brand new sportsbook launched, offering far more than just horse racing
- Benefit from the unique Tote dividend as an alternative to normal fixed odds betting
3.40 Doncaster – Carmers
The run from Carmers in the Great Voltigeur could hardly have been more eye-catching when a staying on second behind the Dante winner who did him for speed, and he should relish stepping back up in trip in Saturday’s St Leger.
He took his form to a new level when winning at Royal Ascot earlier in the campaign and the run at York should put him spot on for this test.
The yard could hardly be in better form, running at a 40% strike-rate in recent weeks and this unexposed prospect could be a real flag bearer for the team going forward.
- St.Leger Day Betting Tip 3: 3.40 Doncaster – Carmers @ 5/1
- Brand new sportsbook launched, offering far more than just horse racing
- Benefit from the unique Tote dividend as an alternative to normal fixed odds betting
