Karen Carney has emerged as the new favourite to win the 23rd series of Strictly Come Dancing, after securing a maximum 40/40 score on Saturday night.
The England football turned pundit began the show at odds of 14/1, and saw those odds pushed out to 50/1 as recently as late October. However her Argentine Tango in week six saw her receive 10s for the first time this series, and she has continued to go from strength to strength since then.

Saturday saw Carney and pro dance partner Carlos Gu earn themselves their first perfect 40 for their Couple’s Choice performance. That proved enough to see betting sites move them to the top of their own leaderboards, despite finishing bottom and earning just a single point in the inaugural Instant Dance challenge.
Karen’s ascension to the head of the Strictly betting odds means social media personality and podcaster George Clarke is now having to play catch-up, having previously been the long time favourite. He’ll be taking on an Argentine tango on Saturday, with a first 40 of the series still proving elusive.

Last Saturday saw Balvinder Sopal defy the odds once again. It’s pretty clear that she has limited support with the voting public, having found herself in the dance-off on five occasions already. However the judges decided to save her once again, as Alex’s Cha-cha-cha failed to impress, scoring just a 4 from Craig.
The latest Strictly elimination odds suggest Balvinder’s run on the show will finally come to an end this weekend, and it’s hard to argue with that prediction.
Amber Davies is seen as the other celeb in danger of falling short of the semi-final stage, but this weekend’s Charleston is expected to be a crowd-pleaser. It’s therefore Amber who is most likely to compete against Karen, George and Lewis for a place in the Strictly final.
