Sunderland vs Liverpool Betting Tips
Our betting expert has three Sunderland vs Liverpool tips for Wednesday’s Premier League match at the Stadium of Light (kick-off 8.15pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.
- Draw or Sunderland double chance @ 21/20
- Reinildo Mandava to be shown first card @ 17/2
- Bet Builder – Under 2.5 goals, Dan Ballard 1+ shots & Alexis Mac Allister 1+ shot on target @ 8/1
Black Cats can extend superb home record
Sunderland were ante-post favourites for Premier League relegation but their outstanding home record means they are sitting pretty in the top flight.
The Black Cats, ninth in the table after 25 games, are still unbeaten at the Stadium of Light and can claim another positive result against champions Liverpool.
The Reds are licking their wounds following Sunday’s demoralising 2-1 home defeat to Manchester City in which they led until the 85th minute.
To add insult to injury, Dominik Szoboszlai – probably Liverpool’s best player this season – was sent off deep into injury-time and is suspended for the trip to Sunderland.
Liverpool have won only one of their last seven league matches and they look vulnerable favourites on Wednesday.
Sunderland, missing key man Granit Xhaka, have lost 3-0 at Brentford, 3-1 at West Ham and 3-0 at Arsenal in their last three away fixtures.
But they are a different beast on home turf, beating Crystal Palace and Burnley in their last two matches and drawing with leaders Arsenal, title contenders Manchester City and third-placed Aston Villa.

Rugged Reinildo could add to his card tally
Having played under Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid, Sunderland left-back Reinildo Mandava has had no problem handling the physical side of Premier League football.
He has picked up four yellow cards in his last nine league starts and looks a tasty price to be the first player cautioned on Wednesday.
Despite missing a chunk of the season due to the Africa Cup of Nations, Reinildo has committed 24 fouls in the league – more than any other Sunderland player.
He is likely to be up against Mohamed Salah down Liverpool’s right flank on Wednesday and may struggle to stay out of trouble.

Defences could dominate Stadium of Light clash
December’s reverse fixture at Anfield ended 1-1 and under 2.5 goals is an appealing Bet Builder selection at the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland have conceded only nine goals in 12 home matches and their impressive centre-back Dan Ballard also poses a threat at the other end.
The Northern Ireland international has had eight shots in his last seven league starts and can threaten Alisson’s goal on Wednesday evening.
Alexis Mac Allister was denied by a brilliant Gianluigi Donnarumma save in injury-time on Sunday and the Liverpool midfielder should be backed to have another shot on target.
He hit the post with a header in the home draw with Sunderland and his long-range shooting could be a valuable weapon for the Reds, especially with Szoboszlai suspended.
