Tight and cagey contest expected at San Mames
It is hard to recall a final, or at least a Europa League final, with more riding on it than Wednesday’s battle between Premier League pair Manchester United and Tottenham.
Having endured miserable domestic campaigns – United are 16th and Tottenham 17th in the Premier League – the Europa League provides an opportunity for both clubs to salvage their seasons and secure Champions League qualification in the process.
For Tottenham, they are targeting a first European trophy since 1984 and a first major trophy since 2008, while United will be hoping a win will act as a springboard for more success under Ruben Amorim.
With so much riding on the game and both teams so inconsistent throughout the season, it is bold to pick a winner but, for that exact reason, the draw could be the way to go.
Both these sides have had their share of defensive issues this season but the final could be tight and low-scoring with the pair likely terrified of making errors.
They have naturally taken their foot off the gas in the league recently but it is still worth noting each of Tottenham’s last four games have produced under 2.5 goals and they have tightened up at the back.
A low-scoring game increases the likelihood of the draw and given these sides are separated by just a point in the league and have drawn 14 games between them this season, there is unlikely to be much between them in the Basque country.

Experience and added creativity can see United over the line
For those wanting to pick a winner, United are appealing at 4/5 to win the trophy but backing them to win in extra time could be the way to go at 10/1.
United have already progressed via extra time once in this season’s competition, edging Lyon 7-6 on aggregate after 210 minutes of football in the quarter-finals.
In this season’s FA Cup, meanwhile, they took down Arsenal on penalties at the Emirates Stadium, playing through the last half hour of the game and extra time with 10 men.
If the scores are level at full-time, there is every chance the match could go on to penalties but if one team look more likely to nick it, it is United.
Tottenham will be lacking in the creative department with Lucas Bergvall, Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison all missing, while United have a gamechanger in their ranks in Bruno Fernandes.

Card count could rise in gritty final
A good place to start a Bet Builder for this match is under four goals. The last two meetings between these sides finished 1-0 to Tottenham and 4-3 to Tottenham and it really could go either way in terms of being low-scoring or a humdinger.
But given the significance of the final, both sides should be tight and are unlikely to give too much away early on, while United’s league games have averaged just 2.59 goals per game this season.
There could, however, be over four cards. Tensions could rise at the San Mames with so much riding on the game and last December’s cup meeting between the sides produced six yellows.
United have racked up 82 yellows and three reds in this season’s Premier League, putting them seventh in the card charts.
Complete the Bet Builder with Noussair Mazraoui to commit two or more fouls. The wing-back is likely to be up against Destiny Udogie, who is fouled an average of 1.6 times per game in the Premier League this season.
