Unpredictable pair would take a point
The pressure continues to mount on Ange Postecoglou, whose Tottenham team head into Sunday’s clash having won just one of their last eight league games. That run of results has seen them slip to 14th, one place and two points behind United, with just 27 points from 24 games.
Spurs did stop the rot with a win at Brentford in their last Premier League encounter, but since then they have crashed out of both the EFL Cup and FA Cup.
Visitors Man United have collected seven points from their last five league games but have won four of their last five in all competitions.
Those victories have not been convincing, and they head to North London having already lost at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term.
That defeat came in the League Cup, when Spurs ran out 4-3 victors, but injuries have taken their toll on both squads in recent months.
It’s reported that Tottenham could welcome back three or four players from injury lay-offs, including James Maddison and Destiny Udogie are amongst those tipped to return.
United will be without Lisandro Martinez, while Mason Mount and Luke Shaw are also still sidelined, and Ruben Amorim has to decide whether to start Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee up front.
It’s worth noting that two of the last five meetings have finished in a draw, including a 2-2 scoreline in this fixture in April 2023.

Bankes facing a busy afternoon
If previous meetings between the teams this season are anything to go by, then referee Peter Bankes might have a busy Sunday afternoon ahead of him.
In the league fixture at Old Trafford earlier this season, there were seven yellow cards and one red, with Man United skipper Bruno Fernandes dismissed.
Then in their League Cup clash there were another six cautions, three for Spurs and three for the visitors.
It seems highly likely that Amorim will select Manuel Ugarte to play in the holding role in the middle of the park, allowing Fernandes to pull the strings in the Tottenham half.
Ugarte has been booked eight times this season, with his latest yellow coming in last week’s FA Cup success over Leicester.
- Tottenham vs Manchester United Tip 2: Manuel Ugarte to be booked @ 11/5 with bet365
Both sides to be on the front foot
With both managers concerned by defensive fragility, it looks like attack is the best form of defence for the two teams on Sunday.
Matches played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have been lively, with both teams scoring in the last 10 league games at the ground, while United have found the net in five of their last seven away league matches.
Although he has been one of Spurs’ best players this term, Dejan Kulusevski has scored just one league goal since the turn of the year.
The Swedish international is expected to keep his place on Sunday and has scored in both of this season’s meetings with United.
Meanwhile, with both teams expected to be on the front foot, there looks likely to be plenty of set-piece situations.
Spurs lead the league in corners, averaging 7.5 per game, while United have an average of five per match so far this season.
