Tour Championship 2025 betting tips

Scottie Scheffler has the chance to make history this week by becoming the first ever back-to-back FedEx Cup champion, but punters may feel his price is on the short side given the strength of the opposition.

His fifth win of the season at the BMW Championship underlined why he sits atop the FedEx standings, yet the change in format could make things more interesting. With no starting strokes in play this year, the 30-man field all begin on level terms in what promises to be a pure 72-hole shootout.

That levels the playing field and opens the door for other proven winners such as Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Viktor Hovland to mount a serious challenge.

Scheffler’s ball-striking still unmatched

Scottie Scheffler returns to East Lake as the man to beat, once again setting new standards with his ball-striking. For the second season running he has led the PGA Tour in strokes gained: tee-to-green by a record margin, and that relentless consistency has translated into 13 straight worldwide top-10 finishes.

The scars of 2022, when a misfiring putter saw him surrender a commanding lead on Sunday, may serve as motivation this time. Crucially, he looks a different player on the greens under the guidance of putting coach Philip Kenyon, finding the steadiness that previously eluded him.

East Lake is a course that punishes inaccuracy and rewards measured play, which plays perfectly into Scheffler’s strengths. With his tee-to-green dominance and renewed confidence on the greens, the world number one will take some stopping if he maintains his touch with the putter.

McIlroy can make his mark

McIlroy has won this event three times and posted the lowest 72-hole score at East Lake on just as many occasions.

While his form dipped after a three-week break, he remains one of the longest hitters on tour and thrives on demanding layouts.

The Northern Irishman has three wins this season, including the Masters, and will relish the opportunity to go toe-to-toe with Scheffler without a handicap disadvantage.

If he finds rhythm early, he could be the one to watch.

Young blood on the rise

Cameron Young, fresh off his maiden PGA Tour win at the Wyndham Championship, will be one to watch at longer odds.

Young clinched that victory in North Carolina by six strokes and the New Yorker’s aggressive style suits East Lake’s risk-reward setup.

Five of the 28-year-old’s last eight rounds have come in at 65 or under and only one has been over par – a 71 – illustrating his rising form.
