The sixth Signature Event of the PGA Tour season takes place at the Wissahickon Course, Philadelphia Cricket Club this week with a 72-strong field battling it out for the newly named Truist Championship.
Previously known as the Wells Fargo Championship, this event is usually played at Quail Hollow, but given that course is staging next week’s US PGA Championship, a temporary host will be in effect for just the third time in the tournament’s existence.
After romping to an eight-shot victory at last week’s CJ Cup Byron Nelson, world number one Scottie Scheffler has opted to have a week off, but a star-studded field headed by defending champion Rory McIlroy is set to put on a show in Philadelphia.

Lowry to can Major boost
Measuring 7,119 yards, the Wissahickon Course is not long compared to the regular venues seen on the PGA Tour and that means this week’s test will be about course management and picking the right spots.
Irishman Shane Lowry fits the bill, as he ranks fourth in strokes gained tee-to-green and 11th in approach on the US circuit this season, while his short game is one of the best in the business.
The 38-year-old has also been threatening to return to the winner’s circle this year, with a runners-up finish at Pebble Beach and top-10 results at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Valspar Championship.
Sitting at a career-high 12th in the world rankings, Lowry was tied-12th playing alongside McIlroy in the Zurich Classic last time out and the 2019 Open champion looks like a good shout to enjoy individual spoils this week.

Morikawa can end trophy drought
October 2023 was the last time Collin Morikawa tasted success – a six-shot triumph at the Zozo Championship – but the American’s form this season suggests a seventh PGA Tour title is not far away.
The 28-year-old, who is a two-time Major winner, finished runner-up at both the Sentry and Arnold Palmer, while he was T10 at the Players, T14 at the Masters and posted top-20s at Pebble Beach and the Genesis Invitational.
His last individual outing was a little disappointing, as he ended up T54 at the RBC Heritage, but that was a rare blip in an otherwise consistent campaign and he has the skills to contend this week.
Morikawa is third for strokes gained in approach and tee-to-green, while he is also second in driving accuracy, so it would not be a surprise to see him in the mix come Sunday.

Consistent Hoge to make his mark
Another player that has been ticking along nicely is world number 42 Tom Hoge, who has posted finishes of T3, T5, T14 and T18 in his last four individual events.
The 35-year-old American, whose sole PGA Tour success came at the 2022 Pebble Beach, is 12th in strokes gained approach and ninth in putts per round.
It doesn’t seem like a second title on the US circuit is far away for Hoge and he could deliver the goods this week.
