Oleksandr Usyk vs Daniel Dubois Betting Tips

The bout will be the first time a fight for the undisputed heavyweight title has been contested on UK shores.

Usyk is set to defend his WBA, WBC and WBO titles, while the IBF title Dubois picked up when vacated by the Ukrainian is also on the line.

The final bell may not be needed again

This highly anticipated rematch has been two years in the making, following Oleksandr Usyk’s stoppage victory over Daniel Dubois in front of a packed stadium in Poland back in August 2023.

That night, Usyk weathered a controversial fifth-round body shot, deemed a low blow, and regained control before finishing the fight with a sharp jab in the ninth, having already floored Dubois in the eighth. The legitimacy of the body shot has been hotly debated ever since, but the outcome stood: Usyk won convincingly.

Since then, the Ukrainian has elevated his legacy further by defeating Tyson Fury twice in tight contests, solidifying his position as the premier heavyweight of his era.

Dubois, meanwhile, has been on a rebuild under trainer Don Charles, collecting three successive knockout wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic, and Anthony Joshua. That win over Joshua, in particular, was a statement. Dubois, a heavy underdog at Wembley, dominated with four knockdowns in five rounds and retained his title in emphatic style.

Crucially, the 27-year-old appears to have matured, both mentally and physically, showing resilience that was missing in earlier defeats to Usyk and Joe Joyce.

Still, Usyk presents a unique challenge. He won all but one round in their first meeting, even with Dubois finding some moments of success outside the disputed low blow. If Dubois is to flip the script this time, he must find a more effective way to impose himself from the outset.

An aggressive start has been teased, and while that approach could unsettle Usyk, it also carries significant risk. Against a fighter as elusive and precise as Usyk, walking into counters could quickly unravel Dubois’ game plan.

One thing is certain, Dubois will need to gamble at some stage. Whether that results in glory or another early finish, it’s unlikely this one goes the distance.

Masterful Usyk to take over late

While Dubois will bring the power with a 95% stoppage rate from his 22 professional wins, Usyk is a master at evading his opponent’s best weapons and can counterstrike better than any heavyweight out there.

Sharing 48 rounds in four contests with Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury will attest to the Ukrainian’s brilliance at limiting his opponents to ones and twos instead of the multiple punch combinations needed to defeat a fighter of his quality.

This improved version of Dubois must not only find a way to land a fight-altering volume, but also be willing to take what is coming back in return.

Usyk has also shown to be a master of breaking his opponents momentum.

In the first fight with Fury in particular, Usyk was able to turn back the tide in his favour following strong rounds from Fury in five, six and seven, including when almost stopping the British fighter in the ninth round.

This was also evident in the rematch, with Fury again finding his feet in the middle rounds, Usyk was able to step on the gas and win multiple close rounds on the judges scorecards.

Dubois is on top of the world having dismantled Joshua and while he is fully capable of shocking the world again, it is hard to see a fighter with the IQ of Usyk being knocked out.

Usyk can once again ride the storm and come through the other side to get his hand raised and secure his status as a three-time undisputed champion.

Okolie to make a heavyweight statement

Lawrence Okolie (21-1-0) can step on the gas at heavyweight against Kevin Lerena (31-3-0).

The former WBO Cruiserweight champion faces the South African in just his second fight in this division, after blowing out Hussein Muhamed in one round in December.

That was Okolie’s second fight since moving up, putting on the weight carefully in a brief stop at Bridgerweight to KO Lukasz Rozansk in just under three minutes.

Lerena is a former cruiserweight who campaigns at both heavyweight and bridgerweight.

Notable names on his record include a decision defeat to Justis Huni last March, while he has also been in with Daniel Dubois. Lerena had the British fighter in a world of trouble, scoring three first-round knockdowns before Dubois was able to recover, landing two knockdowns of his own before getting a third-round stoppage.

Since losing his WBO title on the scorecards to Chris Billam-Smith, Okolie has not only switched up his weight but also his trainer, swapping sunny Dubai for the mean streets of Manchester’s Mossside to link up with Joe Gallagher.

The 32-year-old has put on lots of size, weighing in at over 18 stone for his heavyweight debut.

Larena is no doubt game, but Okolie’s weight and 8 ½ inch reach advantage could pay dividends against a smaller, lighter heavyweight and the Briton is backed to get this done inside the distance.

Tip 3: Lawrence Okolie by KO, TKO or DQ @ EVS with talkSPORT Bet
