Vikings can stage successful overseas raid
The NFL has chosen a potentially close game for its first venture to Ireland and there is little between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings in the betting.
The Steelers are the official home team, but the Vikings are favoured in the market by less than a field goal and the NFC outfit may well have the edge.
Kevin O’Connell’s team went 14-3 last season and have coped well enough with a fluent situation at quarterback this year, arriving in Dublin with a 2-1 record.
Rookie JJ McCarthy oversaw their opening win over the Chicago Bears, but suffered an ankle injury in the defeat by the Atlanta Falcons that followed. Veteran Carson Wentz started for his sixth different team in six seasons against Cincinnati last Sunday and led the Vikings to a commanding 48-10 home victory, so confidence should be high going into this trip.
The Vikings have an unbeaten 4-0 record in overseas games, winning twice at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, including a 23-17 success against the New York Jets last season, having earlier triumphed against the Steelers at Wembley in 2013 and beaten the Cleveland Browns at Twickenham in 2017.
The Minnesota offence has been boosted this week by the return from suspension of wide receiver Jordan Addison to support star man Justin Jefferson, while running back Jordan Mason has impressed since replacing the injured Aaron Jones.
The Steelers are also 2-1 in their first season with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Aaron Rodgers. However, their wins came against struggling AFC East duo the New York Jets and the New England Patriots and they were thumped 31-17 at home when they faced a stronger side in the Seattle Seahawks.

Dublin clash could be low-scoring
The GAA fans who usually attend Croke Park fixtures enjoy a hard-fought battle and that may well be what they are treated to on Sunday, with a relatively low-scoring contest expected.
The forecast is as good as could be hoped for, with a bright day and only scattered showers in the area, but the defences of both teams should be looking to get on top.
The Steelers turned in their best defensive performance of the season when conceding just 14 points to the Patriots last week, and the Vikings’ points-against tallies have also fallen each week, from 24 to 22 to 10.
The Vikings beat the Jets 23-17 on their trip to London last season and a similar scoreline seems likely.

Mason has carved out a role in Minnesota’s offence
The Vikings have rolled with the early injury blows they have received to stay in contention to make the playoffs again and new running back Jordan Mason has made a fantastic start with the team.
The 26-year-old spent the first three seasons of his career with the San Francisco 49ers, mostly in support of Christian McCaffrey, but showed promise when starting in six games last season.
The Vikings traded for him in March and that looks a shrewd acquisition with Jones now out of action with a hamstring injury.
Mason carried the ball 16 times for 116 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Bengals last week and should carry the load for the Vikings offence again.
Breece Hall of the Jets and Kenneth Walker III of the Seahawks have both rushed for more than 100 yards against the Steelers defence this season and Mason can exceed his rushing yards line of 82.5 with bet365.
