West Ham vs Chelsea Betting Tips

Our betting expert has three West Ham vs Chelsea tips for Friday’s Premier League match at the London Stadium (kick-off, 8pm). Scroll down for the analysis behind his selections.

Chelsea to add to Hammers’ woes

West Ham were woeful in their opening 3-0 defeat at Sunderland and, after a poor 2024-25 and a quiet summer in the transfer market, the atmosphere could be mutinous at the London Stadium.

Facing local rivals Chelsea is always a game that carries extra weight and the Blues head across the capital after drawing 0-0 with Crystal Palace.

They were a touch fortunate, with Eberechi Eze having a free-kick controversially ruled out, and fatigue appeared to be a factor as the fixture came just over a month after they won the Club World Cup.

Enzo Maresca is also looking to bed in some of his new signings but this seems the perfect game to respond against a Hammers side lacking quality and inspiration.

Chelsea have won five of their last seven Premier League games against West Ham. The Blues triumphed 3-0 in Stratford last season and can keep it tight again on Friday.

Competitive Cucurella could be in trouble

A player Chelsea fans love, perhaps purely because opposition supporters find his antics so frustrating, Marc Cucurella has no shame in playing the pantomime villain.

He conceded a single foul against Palace, in keeping with the 37 he committed last season.

However, several of those infringements were cynical and, including the one he collected in this fixture, Cucurella reached double figures in yellow cards last term across all competitions, one of which was doubled up to red.

With Maresca asking his full-backs to push on and provide width, the Spaniard can get caught out upfield.

Another caution could be forthcoming from referee Michael Oliver, especially if Hammers’ captain Jarrod Bowen drifts wide and into the space he vacates on his forays forward.

Physicality may lead to fouls

Hammers and Germany striker Niclas Fullkrug was again visibly frustrated by his lack of service at the Stadium of Light and was also outmuscled by Sunderland defender Dan Ballard.

Their duel contributed to the five fouls Fullkrug committed last Saturday and his physical style makes him another who could draw the ire of referee Oliver.

So may Blues captain Reece James, who, akin to Cucurella, likes to push forward.

The skipper committed two fouls in the Palace draw and could repeat that number.

James was among the few Chelsea players who didn’t contribute to their tally of 19 shots against the Eagles and the Blues can rack up the efforts again against a team that looks weaker defensively than their opening opponents.
