Reds to stop the rot in Nuno’s lair
The rot has to stop somewhere and that somewhere may well be the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Fallen champions Liverpool head to West Ham in the most rotten of form with nine defeats in their last 12 matches, six losses in seven in the Premier League.
Just a few weeks ago you’d have had this down as an away banker, but Liverpool’s astonishing, almost inexplicable fall from grace also coincides with a resurgence at West Ham under Nuno Espirito Santo.
And that’s the same Nuno, lest we forget, who masterminded a win over then-unbeatable Liverpool as manager of Nottingham Forest last season.
Nuno has overseen the Hammers earn seven points from their last three games, an encouraging turnaround from darker days earlier in the campaign.
But they have ridden their luck. They have averaged 35 per cent possession in the wins over Newcastle (3-1) and Burnley (3-2) and draw at Bournemouth (22), and had to soak up a barrage of shots.
And Liverpool are still creating chances, even if Arne Slot’s illustrious frontmen have stopped taking many.
Wednesday night’s 4-1 home loss to PSV should be a tipping point for Liverpool, a chance to restart. Being away from Anfield may well help and the truth is they are still a better side than Nuno’s.
Both these clubs’ games are going at over three goals a time, so take Liverpool to win a high-scorer.

Van Dijk to lead from the front
Liverpool average more shots per game this season than Arsenal, Chelsea or Man City, yet here they are floundering.
Only Burnley concede more shots than West Ham, yet here they are recovering.
The bottom line of those two stats – especially given the way we know Nuno likes to set up his team – is that Liverpool will create the majority of the chances at the London Stadium.
And now’s the time for their main men to step up, among them skipper Virgil van Dijk, yet to score this season but sure to be a threat against a team who don’t defend set-plays overly well.
Van Dijk may not be able to break his duck but take him to test the gloves of Alphonse Areola.

Shots and corners certainties in eagerly-awaited tussle
Liverpool are averaging 15.3 shots per game despite their world caving in around them and it’s hard to imagine Arne Slot changing his side’s approach now.
They need wins to boost morale and that means firing off shots, so expect them to live up to their numbers at the London Stadium where the Hammers will sit deep and invite the visitors on.
With that in mind, also take a punt on Liverpool scoring in both halves. Burnley managed it when they visited West Ham last time out, so Liverpool certainly can.
West Ham will have to come out and play at some time and it’s worth noting they average 6.2 corners per home game this term, and have piled up seven against both Newcastle and Burnley, the last two visitors.
Take Nuno’s strugglers to rack up over four corners as the final leg of the bet builder.
